Ended up turning it into a bullpup. Took about 10 inches off of the total length.

Here's a quick 'photochop' of the before and after from some stock photography any my phone camera for comparison.
Don't know why any one who knows room clearing would hate on a bullpup. You lose absolutely no ballistics and can get moving a around the enviroment with less chance of clearing a corner before u can and engage and signaling your location. Who's the manufacturer on that set up?

The kit is produced by a company called Bullpup Unlimited. Currently they make a kit for the Mossberg 500/590 as well as the Remington 870. I was a little dubious about it at first, but after installing it I'm quite pleased. It feels solid and even more comfortable than the original.

Now this is a good way to start the year! FINALLY got my G36 back from the armorer. It was there for the final step of the conversion from a standard HK SL8 rifle. I did all the little stuff myself, but didn't feel comfortable when it came to the cutting and welding. Fantastic work by Tommy-Built Tactical.

I have all 3 barrel lengths for it, but I've currently got the C length (the shortest) on it. (And yes, all NFA paperwork has been completed long ago, so she's completely legal

VABAM, urdeliveryguy, SR71 and 2 others like this.

Nice!

I want a HK MP5-10. That's a 9mm MP5 converted to a 10mm. The FBI have used it in the past.

Yeah. Those are great. I'm not a huge fan of 10mm myself... I just don't think the MP5 looks right with the 10mm's straight mags. (Plus, I don't have much use for that particular round, but it does have great ballistics.)

If you don't mind the wait time, Dakota Tactical makes one of the best MP5s in the world, second only to the original... but not by much.

I used to have one of their standard MP5s. Beautiful piece.

My buddy, who works for DHS. Has shot the MP5-10. He loves it. That's how I found out about it.

General question... Concerning defensive carry ammo, how often do y'all buy fresh rounds?

I shoot the carry mag load every 3 months or so and cycle in new ammo.

That also serves to test it in your firearm and you can feel confident that it is going to shoot that ammo reliably. Never a bad idea when your life is on the line.

The shelf life of most ammo is measured in decades. I don't carry, so moisture may be a bigger problem than I think it is, but going by decades of plinking with handguns and rifles, decent quality ammo doesn't go bad unless it gets wet (degrades the propellant and corrodes the brass and lead). If the brass and lead look good, the ammo should be good. YMMV

Wink

Put finger nail polish around the primer and case mouth to help preserve the round. I do this with my hunting rounds if I know the weather will be bad.

To past my time while I heal up from foot surgery. I started to read a book called "Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting" by Bryan Litz. It's deep in tech. A lot of science.

Looks like the old CCI Blazer rounds. Which I used to use in my MAC10 45ACP. Haven't seen them around for awhile. You can't reload it because the case has 2 flash holes for the primer. It's a Berdan primer.

I shot a hundred rounds of 9mm through a Walther P4 with no problems. Don't remember which brand they were.

As per Rusty, they can't be reloaded.

Totally agree in terms of shelf life. As in, sitting on a shelf. In regards to carry ammo, specifically, you do need to cycle it through and keep it fresh. Problem comes in when you constantly carry. Powder essentially breaks up into smaller pieces from the constant motion. It will change the ballistics of the round and increase chamber pressure exponentially as the powder will burn at a much higher rate.

You also run the risk of partially burnt powder and may get a bullet lodged in the bore. These are all fairly unlikely scenarios but they must be considered as it has previously occurred.

I suppose you really only have to worry about this if the case isn't completely filled and there is room for the powder to move. So it would vary from load to load. I imagine most P+P rounds would never have this issue. Any standard, non-+P round will likely steer toward the need to cycle. But I'm OCD. I only stated what I do with my ammo. You could easily go several years with the same carry ammo. But for myself? Eh, life is more important than an extra $50 for a new box of ammo.
