For polygonal rifling, some sort of shape with multiple sides (i.e. polygon) is cut into the barrel then it is twisted. So the lands and grooves are more gradual and subtle being formed by the corners of the polygon. It is supposed to have a few advantages; more backpressure, more even backpressure on all sides of the bullet, easier to clean and less wear. I am guessing that 5R means an octogon is the shape POF uses as their polygon shape. H&K and now Glock use polygonal rifling as well. Apparently it is more expensive since Noveske barrels are typically $500+. Hope that helps, Mark |
