The gobmint considers the sear alone to be a "machine gun" so you will need a license to legally possess/use that part, but, last time I looked, all the other parts are legal. But it's been a while since I looked, so YMMV.

that's the road I was hoping to go down. I have family in Vegas and was trying to figure out a way to register the gun with one of them. :)

I'm liking that Vortext optic!! I'm going to make a decision in a few weeks on that or just get the eotech set up. thanks!

(For the those who might not know)
Full auto/bust builds are cost prohibitive IMO. The 1986 FOPA banned new sales of full auto and burst fire weapons to civilians after the act was enacted. All full auto/burst weapons made before then were grandfathered. This means AR-15 full auto and bust sears are $15K+ and that’s if you can find one. Most owners are holding on to their auto sears. Oh and don’t forget the NFA paper work too.

Yes, you can own a full auto or burst fire weapon (except in states like IL :stirthepot: :p) but you’ll pay and arm and a leg to do so. I don’t know about you but, my finger can pull a trigger pretty fast.

As a side note; NFA items can be bought (assigned) to a trust. It usually takes less time for the NFA stamp to be issued to a trust, than it does to a private individual. The good part is that you can add anyone to the trust, so that when it comes time (your passing on to the next realm), there is no paperwork for your heirs to worry about and they get your NFA items. Otherwise, as an individual, when you pass on, the government will confiscate your NFA items without compensation.

Build one... I just started my 12th build.

You can build match grade for damn near same price less than some store brands

For those of you that carry daily or atleast have your carry in your Z most of the time.
Where do you all like to mount or store it?

My Bladetech OWB paddle holster actually clips right under the steering wheel and holds in well. Quick access and fairly hidden. I've seen setups in other cars where the holster was custom made to the car. Pretty cool IMO

Haha well that is the point right?!
It is VERY uncomfortable for me to carry while sitting in the Z. Seats are too small I guess.

that's sounds like a pretty good spot.

I carry on my belt too but I do have a "car gun" that remains in the car.
I'm still thinking about where I want to put it.
maybe a holster mounted to the back of the passenger seat?

RBfastback 10-22-2014 09:28 PM

I also have an extra 30 round glock mag keep in the glovebox... just in case

6MT 10-22-2014 09:41 PM

I just bought a surplus Soviet SKS. Added a Tapco stock and collapsablle butt stock. Chambered in the very inexpensive 7.62X39. I picked up a thousand rounds of Ukrainian ammo and it's even non-corrosive ($0.25 per round) I'll see just how fast I can blast away a thousand rounds this weekend. Fun times!

I keep mine in the paddle holster and slip it in between the passenger seat and the center console with the butt of the gun resting on the seat belt clip. It is fairly hidden or at least blends well and access is perfect as it is in a natural position to grab. When i need to hide it a little more as in when i park i a lot i set it in the rear cubby. Takes no effort at all.

If i'm carrying that day it just stays on the belt.

yeah that rear cubby is perfect for a compact

Is storing the weapon hidden in the car legal where you are or are you figuring no one will ever find out? I am just curious.

Ccw permit...my fns40 liked the spot by the passenger seat belt buckle as,well.

Loving the .308...next on the list is a ar10 platform...would you recommend the dpms midlife?

RBfastback 10-22-2014 10:58 PM

car in an extension of the castle doctrine, at least in FL.
with or without a ccw license its legal.
(there changing it from permit to license to avoid confusion on what it actually is)

Didn't know that...pa is strict with legal carry in the car....oh is similar what what I have ready to pa but not quite as strict(just moved to oh ) In,PA without permit the gun and ammo have to be in separate compartments ie gun in car in case or visable ammo in trunk so it is,not easily accessible.

:iagree: but I think it should be in a case in the glove box that can be readily seen when asked. Should not be hidden under your seat as this would require a conceal weapon permit. Ammo should be in separate compartment.
Which I find absurd.

yeah, your right.
if u have ur ccw license its easier because it just has to be out of sight/concealed.

if u don't have ur ccw license it has to be in something that closes or seals..
like a glove box or center consul with a lid.

But in either case it can be loaded with mag in and one in the chamber. perfectly legal

I've got my app in for CC. anyone know some good options for in car safes/storage? I want something that attaches to the vehicle, has a lock and is accessible from the drivers seat

Here in cali that's illegal for ccw holders. Yep, found that crap out in my class. My friend (none-ccw, and unloaded) has this in his jeep. Depending on vehicle you plan to use I'm sure you can find something similar:

God I love living in Texas. The state actually goes out of its way to make laws promoting gun ownership

I kinda understand the process behind it. If a cop pulls over a little thug and sees the mounted safe and wants to check it out he needs a warrant or consent. So before the law was changed little thug a**holes would mount a safe in their car and stash their stuff in it when getting pulled over. So Cali made it a law that a safe mounted to the car was illegal to store weapons. Giving the cops the ability to check it out for weapons. At least that's how it was explained to me.

I'm not familiar with the CCW laws in CA. I took IL/UT/AZ/FL CCW. All of those deem your car a safe haven. You can conceal in your car but have to lock it up when in the parking lot of a restricted carry area.

Thanks for the link. I saw some of those drawers for the jeeps. But I haven't been able to find anything like that for my vehicle. The darn GPS unit is under the drivers seat anyhow. Might have to find something that attaches inside the door pocket, console storage or glove box I guess. Or just a holster for the glove box since that locks.

I would just use my glovebox. Wish I could haha. I bought a clam shell with a cable lock. That's okay... cause its not mounted... just tied to my car :ugh2:

glove box seems to be a good option unless I make something custom for the center console. I'd still like to find a holster for it in the glove box. Prefferably attached so it doesn't bounce around int there.

I use the serpa for work for about 6years now and its an awesome holster (with proper training). You'll see people complain that the finger retention makes it to where your finger slides into the trigger guard when drawing. No, it slides onto the frame as long as you rest your finger on the button release not push it in with the tip of your finger like an idiot.

honestly if u don't find anything to buy there all right the glovebox fits all that criteria and that's what I use now for g26 and it sits in a remora rubber holster on top of the owners manual.
it never moves, very snug.
them my XDs sits in a holster in the rear cubby.

also if u wanted u can get a pocket pistol an fabricate something for the dash if u don't have the nav package in there

Ghostvette 10-23-2014 10:44 AM

I carry my SIG in a Blackhawk holster with an extra mag, under the dash by the steering wheel. The holster is nylon, so it doesn't rub against my knee too bad. I'm going to have to switch to a kydex or hard shell holster, the nylon is starting to sag a bit. I keep my AR10 in a case in the hatch area, next to the brace, and a well-stocked first aid kit behind the passenger seat. Never hurts to be prepared. :)

To be honest, I view Texas as having rather restrictive gun laws overall (although better than California, certainly). Even more restrictive than, say, here in Minnesota - The Land of Al Franken.
