ya, i need to check them out at the PX when i get back before i make the plunge on this one...

i think this one would be good for my wife because i hear it has very little recoil...

The problem with the subcompacts is you don't get a full three-finger grip unless you have a pinky extension on the mag, so recoil can be more difficult to manage than you'd expect.

I only have the G26 so it's not as snappy as a .40, but even still it takes a bit of practice to get used to shooting with the short grip. But after time with it it doesn't bother me at all. My GF, though, hates shooting it without the pinky extensions.

Yeah that's one of the extended mags. I think they also make the pinky extensions that don't add extra rounds for the XDs.

No problemo. I love the Pearce grip extension on one of my G26 mags. It's what I carry in the gun when I can get away with the added length of the grip... so fall/spring/winter.

Springfield is reputed to be "OK". Sig...they aren't really the company they used to be. Since manufacturing and design for the US market has been taken over by SigArms, QA has become problematic. The German Sigs are still top notch...US-made Sigs, not so much. I've had my P229 since 1996. It's seen an exceptional pistol and utterly reliable. I wouldn't buy a Sig these days, though. I see heaps of armorer frustration in the law enforcement market with the current versions of Sig's pistols.

If only those firearms purchasing decisions were being made by the actual end-users and armorers according to maintenance requirements and reliability instead of by the bean counters more concerned about their department's budget. Firearms purchases by law enforcement organizations is always low-bid. Performance and reliability takes a back seat. Glock in particular has moved away from their previously aggressive department pricing. Sig is desperate to get into the market. Looks like they dropped their prices but maintained their margins by cutting quality. Their current problems with quality control since Ron Cohen took over as CEO are well-known.

Ron Cohen was the CEO at Kimber before SigArms hired him, if that tells you anything.

Never heard of Ron Cohen, and Kimber's unless you go to L.A., are non existent around here.
