All you need is to apply a bit of oil and you're good to go, it's a polymer gun not a 1911.

If I recall correctly the gun comes with a bore brush doesn't it? Just buy a solvent, some cleaning patches or cut up some of your own and gun oil and presto, you've got your cleaning kit.

Good deal, hopefully I get my Kimber back around the same time Springfield returns yours and then we can test those bad boys out.

xdeslitx 03-22-2012 12:24 PM

here's what the repair shop did to my gun...some of it is kinda jibberish to me lol anyone care to explain?

"they drilled & pinned the ejector, refit the extractor, reamed the barrel & polished the feed ramp. It was test fired without any problems using the magazines sent with the handgun."

Several reasons a round might not be ejected properly...a) if the chamber is too tight that it's too hard to get the spent shell out b) if the extractor isn't grabbing the cartridge case rim correctly c) if the counterpressure being applied by the ejector is weak or off-center d) if new rounds from the magazine are interfering with the spent round because of abnormalities in the feed ramp.

Apparently your gun was having cycling problems. They took a broad approach by making sure the ejector and extractor were up to snuff so that shell ejection would be appropriate, then they made sure that chambering new rounds was optimal by addressing the feed ramp and by making sure the barrel's chamber was appropriately sized.

The fact that they tried to cover all the bases without identifying one exact problem is concerning. One has to wonder if that's because of a bad design of the weapon, or if it's part of their value-added custom shop operations. If I buy a gun, I buy one that doesn't need to have the ejector, extractor, chamber and feed ramps fixed after the sale in order for it to function correctly. Not exactly confidence-inspiring. I'd be wondering what the problem with the gun actually was.

Well hopefully everything will be all good now thanks for the explanation. It's not that the round wasn't ejecting correctly. I had probably 3 FTEs out of 800 rounds of FMJ. My issue was that my slide was getting stuck and i couldn't rack it. My problems came about only on the day i tried JHP...I already knew from the forums that the springfield 9mms don't like JHP but decided to try anyway lol

For what pistol?

If 1911, try looking at 1911 Pistol Grips . I'm pretty indifferent to the 1911 myself, but I have a buddy that's a fanatic and he has several pairs of grips from VZ.

Thanks for posting that article. This past weekend I participated in a level 2 concealed handgun training course spanning two days. The first day I used my H&K P2000SK 9mm and the second day I used my Glock 19 Gen 4 as these are the only two of my weapons that I would carry. The program consisted of a point shooting, moving while shooting, shooting from behind cover, shooting from the ground and tactical reloading.

Going in I was a bit concerned that my accuracy would suffer when using the P2000SK because of the DA and short barrel/sight length; the little sucker destroyed those concerns as I could quickly and accurately hit targets at will. I found the Glock 19 to be suprisingly accurate and felt great as well. It did bite me during a left handed shooting drill, but that is because I didn't have my right thumb in the correct position (that will learn me :) ).

The first day all the other participants including the instructors suffered various malfunctions with handguns that were other than Glock or H&K. It was a bit unnerving to see that guys couldn't complete some drills due to a non-functioning handgun. On the other hand my confidence with Glock and H&K has been affirmed in a big way since I experienced nary an issue. The second day the instructors showed up with Glock 17s which allowed the demonstrations to go much more smoothly.

I've never taken a firearms course of any kind that didn't result in one or more weapons failing during the course and I can assure that Glocks are not immune. The Gen 4 in particular has been responsible for more weapons failures in courses I've attended than any other single brand I've seen..even more than current-model Sigs, which run a close second.

Louis Awerbuck's courses always start with a rundown of all the pistols running in that course. He goes through the various problems they are known for, and will even make failure predictions about some of them over the 1000 rounds of the course. He is most often correct about the Sigs. OTOH, I've never seen him say anything bad about HK's. He doesn't like them, particularly, but he acknowledges that they're reliable.

Paying twice or three times the price of other handguns seems to be getting me something at least. But just think of all those Taurus guns I could have owned by now...

Saiga is the Russian manufacturer. Arsenal is the company that imports the scout riffle from the Russian factory in Izhmash (SGL21) and turns it into an AK-47 with a forward trigger group and pistol grip. I think they add the bayonet accessories as well

Long story longer, it is an Arsenal as well.
