I can't argue with your reasoning.

Speaking for myself, I feel I have an obligation to provide to anyone in my castle some level of safety and protection.

I'm curious as to why some of you feel the need to carry all/most the time. I'm a Constitutional Carry kind of guy but I have seldom felt the need to carry in public. If I think some place is dangerous enough that I would need to carry, I don't go there.

I realize some may have jobs or other activities that would make full-time protection necessary, so I'm not asking y'all. This is aimed at Joe/Jane Average who frequently carries. Not trying to start an argument - carry if you want to, I say - just curious.

I carry all the time. The only exceptions are when going somewhere it isn't allowed or if I'll be drinking, in both cases carrying would be illegal.

I carry all the time to remove the question of premeditated from the equation.

I would prefer to sit on a stand and tell a jury I carry all the time instead of telling them I hardly carry and just felt it was necessary on 'that' day.

Also you never know when something might happen. I'd rather be covered than to have my friends and family visit me at the cemetery.

I carry all the time for the same reason I have insurance all the time.

Thanks for the replies. I either live in a lot safer place than you guys* or I'm oblivious to the danger.

*This could be due, in part, to the fact that a lot of people in my area DO carry.

I live in Houston and you can go from million dollar houses to the projects in a matter of a mile or two.

I was in Houston for some job training back in the 1990s. Didn't get to see much of the city but I do remember hearing "The Overnight Murder Report" on one of the radio stations when driving to breakfast. IIRC, there were about six murders announced each morning. Sorry to hear that things are still bad.

Call me a Hillbilly, Yokel, Redneck, whatever - I like living in a small, rural town.

You ever go to walmart? Them there are some scary people. Even the workers!

I've had a CCP since I was 21. 60 as of today. That's a long time to carry. I've had to pull it out, but never squeezed the trigger. Hopefully, I never have too.

Growing up in a college town in the 70's shaped my thinking on guns. College kids are stupid on some of the things they did. They liked to pick on the townies (locals). Sometimes just showing the butt of a gun under your jacket was enough from getting your asss kicked.

I've had 3 jobs that required to carry. DoD, armored car, and working for a private diick. That was the most FUN I've ever had on a job. Have 2 Certs for the state of Pa. Act 120, and Act 235.

The old saying, "I would rather be tried by 12, then be carried by 6."

True ... when given as murders/100k/year, it's not out of line with the rest of the world. But the sheer number made an impression on this country boy.

2001-2013 statistics for reference:
We get from 1-3 (4.6-14.9/100k) murders per year. Five (23.9/100k) in 2005, for some reason.
For the same period in Houston: 198 (9.2) to 377 (18.2).

Crime in El Dorado, Arkansas (AR): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map
Crime in Houston, Texas (TX): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map

I just noticed I accidentally swapped out my +P ammo for a standard load.

I'm not sure what I think about that. I'm not sure I'd rather carry standard over a +P load. Thoughts?
