Agree about China, but we lead by example, and then collectively countries can put pressure on them to improve.

One of the main reasons China is the world’s largest polluter besides too many Chinese people (see my statements above re breeding) is bc they are basically the world’s factory. Our country had much worse pollution in the 50s thru 70s as well and ironically as we offshored more and more manufacturing industry over there, we reduced our pollution as a by product.

I never said I wanted to ban red meat but your reaction to my statement is exactly the problem we are facing. Point fingers at everyone else and use them as an excuse not to do anything and not take responsibility and then refuse to even consider small changes. I never said no red meat, I said eat less of it is better for your personal health as well as our planet’s health.

Why should I slice my own throat so that China can rule over me. They are buying influence in this country and all other countries. Hollywood won't even make a movie that shows China in a bad light. Why, because of Chinese money.

John Cena just made an apology to China for him saying that Taiwan was a country. Why? Because of the new movie Fast & Furious 9. They want to show it in China.

But you’re not being asked to slice your own throat. Bringing blue collar jobs back here as much as possible from China but building cleaner running manufacturing facilities would help us, and hurt China actually. And reduce their influence and power over our economy.

All of us being a little bit better and conscientious about how we live will have big changes collectively. I’m not suggesting radical measures for any one person. I’ll bring up the red meat thing again since we’ve been debating that one. Imagine just eating red meat only once or twice a week, assuming you’re eating it more frequently than that, hats not a big change personally, but if millions do something like that, it has a huge ripple effect.

Another example would be thermostat settings. In the summer if more folks set their thermostat at 76 deg vs say 68-72 deg, not only would you save $$, we’d also burn less fossil fuel. Win win.

As far as China buying influence in our country and others. I agree with you I don’t like it. It’s why we need to invest in foreign countries not cut back on foreign investment by our state department. Interestingly, a lot of countries that took that Chinese money are now realizing that it came with strings attatched and they’re not to happy about it.

Re Hollywood, I agree with you again but I’m also a capitalist and companies are gonna go where the $$ is and they will suck up to the biggest consumer base. That used to be us, now it’s them.

I've been bumping the thermostat to temperature ranges I can live with. 74 in summer, 71 in winter. I bought a better system so it doesn't cycle continously. The challenge with adjusting temps is that while we use less energy, the 'energy' companies don't make as much money and they raise the energy rates, which causes other folks to change the temps so their bill isn't so high, which means the energy company doesn't make as much money & the cycle repeats.

I've got a Honeywell t'stat. When I upgraded my HVAC, I wanted to put a NEST t'stat in. The HVAC guys said that the NEST needs 7 wires, my system only had 4. I don't know if that is correct or not.

You'll need a Chicago typewriter if you are bringing everything into the 20s....

Why should I sacrifice when someone else is just going offset my selfishness? I'd rather assume that my selfishness is offset by someone dumb enough to sacrifice their red meat consumption. I know a lot of stupid vegetarians

74 summer and 71 winter. I have one of those smart thermostats. It actually made my gas and electric bills go up because of the cycling. Trying to get the house back to temperature. The units would run for a long time.

75/76 summer and 68 winter here. The smart features are mostly dumb on my Nest. I just set a custom schedule. Then I can adjust it manually as needed without it thinking that I want to change my schedule every time I make a small adjustment. Before I turned the smart stuff off, it would add a new entry to the schedule nearly every time someone made an adjustment. After a few months of that the schedule got completely fuct lol
