You can't plan for everything but a good supply of water, food, heat, and light will get you through most emergencies. You don't have to become a SHTF prepper, just enough to get you and your family through the aftermath of tornadoes, ice storms, quakes, etc. Depending on how bad you think things can get, you might want to keep a few guns and some ammo, too. If you have trees around your house, a chain saw and fuel could come in handy to remove them from your house and/or cut firewood for heat.

Also have some gasoline, bleach, and some 91% isopropyl alcohol and maybe some sort of water filtration system

Got it. For bleach, use unscented. Plus you have to watch out. It has a short shelf life.

What do you use the 91% isopropyl for? Fuel? I keep a couple of gallons of denatured alcohol for emergency fuel and general use around the house.

We use to get 8,000 gals of sodium hypochlorite at the plant. We had to use it up with up 3 months before it would start to weaken.

Came across a video explaining on how the virus is spreading to different countries. Almost all airlines have stop flights to and from China, but for one The Thailand airline is still flying in and out of Wuhan. The Chinese are fling out using this airline to Thailand. Then from Thailand to other parts of the world. This is how the Chinese is getting around the ban.

Water filtration system. I have a couple of different types that I got from Cabela's. Hand pump, gravity fed, and a couple of Life Straws. When we travel. We always have a Life Straw with us. When we go on a cruise. That's the first thing I pack.

I need to get some type of filtering system. For home use so it doesn't need to be very portable. There is a drainage ditch behind my house that could come in handy if my water supply runs out. Probably significant amounts of hydrocarbons and other crap from street runoff so would need carbon media or something similar. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the leads!

I'm not sure the units labeled as being for camping would be big enough for what I want. If things get bad enough that I'm pulling water from the ditch, I'm probably going to be supplying water to other people.

The Lifestraw Community in all-metal construction would be what I'm imagining I need/want. But metal may be going a little overboard; plastic might be OK. I'll definitely be investigating the LC further.

I've also been looking at stills. A pressure cooker and some copper tubing would work and be easy to put together in an emergency but would use a lot of valuable fuel.
A solar still wouldn't need any fuel but it looks like a unit to supply 6 -12 people would be too large to be practical unless the installation were permanent.

I may need to scale back on the specs and go for something just big enough for the dogs and I.

A solar set up large enough to supply 120v through an inverter and batteries is a permanent set up on your roof.

For stills. Check out Mile High Stills. Have a friend that has the stainless still with a thumper. I almost bought one for myself.
