They didnt give you a moving allowance? My old company gave me 5k, lived on an expense report for 3 months (hotel, food, rental car), and if I had a house from where I came, I think there wouldve also been some sort of compensation if I bought a house in socal... maybe paid the closing fees or something.

If you don't. you screwed up. My nephew is a federal fire chief for a military base. Turned 50 last year. Can retire at anytime now with 80% of his gross pay. He makes over $140,000 yr. The city that he lives in, wants him for their fire chief, at $120,000 a year. $112,000 + $120,000= $232,000. The kid did good for himself.
