Speaking of road rage, I honked at an idiot last week who cut me off. We pulled up to the light and he raged out of his car screaming at me. I looked backwards out my window and politely asked him to double check the striping, informing him I had to brake and swerve to avoid him hitting me in my lane. I don't think he appreciated my calm demeanor as I rolled my eyes at his idiocy and waved him back to his car. He asked how I would like it if he smacked me in the face.

My verbal response: would that make you feel better?
He said it might but then got back in his car

I'm pretty sure his life sucks already, and I can promise it wouldn't have gotten better had he attacked me. I was thinking how I could use that lawsuit money to boost the Z plus it might be fun to drop this jackass in the guise of self-defense.

That's my dilemma. Do I defend myself just enough that he doesn't do any damage. Or do I drop him in his tracks.

Come out of the vehicle, videoing and screaming law suit. Wonder what their reactions would be?

Drop him like a hot rock...

He'd have gotten to my car and been staring down the barrel of a SIG. You are basically defenseless sitting in your car, so it becomes 'Officer, I was in fear of my life'.....

I don't usually carry. So I have to be cautious with my interaction. Especially in Texas

It is easier to diffuse the situation without escalating it. Which is always the preferred option. I'll take a punch before throwing one. Self-defense is much easier to justify in court vs assault. Just cause the guy can't take a punch and got dropped doesn't mean I didn't act in self-defense.

There's too many stupid people here in Kansas/Missery to not carry. Between the meth users and the 'mental' cases (aka lady in Parkville that fired two shots in the DMV parking lot), sometimes the mere presence of a firearm gives people pause.

I honked at a guy for almost taking the front bumper off of my old Malibu. He got out of his truck at the stop light with a tire iron. I displayed a .45, he turned around, got back in his truck and left. He'd have made a helluva mess of me because we were in a left turn lane on a bridge.

I'm getting to old to fist fight.When that guy broke into my house two years ago took everything I had to fight him off.Glock in the gun safe.

Most times I'm carrying.Do I want to kill a guy who is an idiot having a bad day?

Or is he truly threatening my person and needs to be put down?

After 20 or so years in law enforcement I put my guns away. I hardly ever carry my gun with me because most the time the best you can hope for is to be a good witness as it is too dangerous to let a few rounds go flying into a crowded. The scenario GV and JB bring up are just plain scary. You never know what the idiot is going to do or if the are packing. Most the time honor is the better part of valor and I am with Jar, but I am also with GV if someone was to approach me in that manner. Home protection is a different story altogether. If you invade my home you are asking me to kill you. My gun is lock and loaded in my bed stand drawer. The bottom line for me is what we said as officers, better to be tried by twelve than buried by six. Be safe it is a crazy dangerous world!

You beak into my home when the wifey or I'm there. You're going out in a body bag. Two senior citizens with disabilities. In my county, they wouldn't even think about charging us.

I carry. So does the wifey. Out of the house. You have to be very careful if you show a gun. It may stop the actions of one, or go totally wrong in a heart beat.

There are no easy answers to any of this. People are just crazy these days. It started going down hill back in 2008.

This the line we have to walk these days. You have to size up the situation quickly if you don't want things to go wrong cause it can happen so fast.

In my experience, for the most part, bigger guys seem to respond better to a calm approach. It's the little guys with a size complex that sometimes need to be put in their place with a more aggressive interaction.

Precisely. Anything I might use for protection is easily accessible in my home. The only guns in my safe are really old and cumbersome.
