Some of you guys saying you could do 30 reps.... How the hell did you get to that? Did you strap on some weights and do them with more weight

Some of you guys saying you could do 30 reps....
How the hell did you get to that? Did you strap on some weights and do them with more weight first...because doing body weight over and over again I don't seem to progress much...I maybe add 1 every 4 months...lol then I get weaker ... I have been doing them 5 days a week... Of course I am old too so maybe thats it...
