Default Anyone here a building contractor (or know one?)

First things first. The house I'm living in was built in the 1940's-50's and had an addition put on in the 90's. They left the old roof in place when they put the addition on and just cut a hole in the old roof for access into the addition's attic. I'm doing some work in the attic and I'm getting tired of crawling through that hole. Given the pictures below, do you see any reason why I can't cut more out so I can basically just walk into the addition's attic? Only support I see is a couple pieces of hardwood flooring supporting the section I'd want to cut out.

This is the other side of the hole
