Thanks. I was already with Verizon so all my contacts and voice mail stuff was setup for me at purchase time. I already had gmail and google talk so that stuff worked out of the box. Luckily it has a slide-out keyboard -- I suck at using the virtual keyboard

The wide virtual KB isnt too bad...thin mode sucks though. Especially with a screen protector.

My battery useage has dropped by at least 50% since the 2.1 upgrade. I'm a happy camper!

For those who just bought the Droid or are contemplating any new phone, I would wait a few more weeks for the HTC Incredible. I've been waiting on this phone or the Nexus One to be released for about 2 months now, and it looks like the Incredible is coming out on the 26th!

Verizon's HTC Incredible coming April 25? (update: 29th in Best Buys?) -- Engadget Mobile

HKYStormFront 04-07-2010 03:56 PM

wow they weren't humble about naming that phone at all were they? lol

Far too generic of a question man :(

All depends on your service provider, and the types of phones you like. Full-touchscreen? Qwerty keyboard?

What are you going to use your phone for? Primarily phone stuff like calling? Media? Do you need to be connected 25/7? Do you use Google a lot? Do you have a gmail account at all? How important is phone speed to you? Do you want a lot of flexibility in what you can do? Do you want a powerful camera? Do you want the ability to record solid video? How important is a user interface to you?

Almost any smart phone will fit that bill...but something with Android or the iPhone are really your best choices for a phone with solid apps...

At that point, its figuring out which individual features you want, and what network you want to live on.

You sign up for a plan with AT&T, but there shouldn't be any contract - you just start paying month by month like anyone else.

So yeah, I suppose you just slap a SIM in there and go :)

I wouldnt touch an HD2. Looks cool, but its running WinMo, and they have guaranteed it WONT be able to upgrade to WinMo7 thats coming out...

Keep in mind, the N900 doesnt run Android - it has its own proprietary OS (a version of Linux). AKA, no apps for j00.

If you want the HTC-specific branded version, with a contract, you can wait for this one:

HTC Desire to come in silver as well Boy Genius Report

I think it looks better personally, but thats me. Its not quite out yet, but if you're willing to wait, its coming...

MightyBobo 04-10-2010 03:12 PM

You can also wait for the Sony Xperia X10 too, btw.

Rogers announces the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Boy Genius Report

Also not quite out yet, but soon Im sure.

If I didnt have my Droid, I'd be buying that as soon as it came out. But, Im in a great position right now - when my 2yr contract goes up, the new LTE 4G Verizon phones will have been out for a good bit, and I'll snap up the new hottness then :)

The Incredible does look pretty incredible :-p

HKYStormFront 04-10-2010 07:35 PM

i'm having a small issue with my phone here recently. when i get a notification that i have a message on facebook, i use the shortcut to bring it up and it loads one blank white page then stops, it doesn't redirect to my inbox. anyone else having this issue? if so, did you get it fixed and how?

nope just verizon as of now. looks like it may come out tomorrow but thats not going to happen my guess is the 25APR2010

TamZ 04-11-2010 06:48 PM

I'm still struggling to "love" my Droid. If I go into an area where there is good service (3G) it seems to perform wonderfully. (fast, etc). Unfortunately, my home seems to be in a "dead area" and my phone rarely works very fast..(30 seconds sometimes to find a page, or send a comment to facebook)..it always says 1x most the time and vascillates between 3G with one bar and the 1X. When I got the phone, they told me I was in a 3G area, yet it seems I'm not really. I hate to turn it in because when I'm out and about, it does work, unfortunately, I find myself either at my home or at college most of the time, and the phone works mediocre at best in both locations. Oddly, it worked fast as a rocket out in the middle of the Mojave desert, in California City, CA when I was camping out there over Easter. (in the middle of flippin' NOWHERE. Go figure.)

MightyBobo 04-11-2010 07:06 PM

Yeah, my house is a black hole too, Tamz. Sucks. Works fantastic everywhere else. Its ok - I just flip on the WiFi and Im good to go if I even need it...

At least you have the wifi option. I live sort of out in the country, no high speed internet available yet :( They keep saying they'll get it out here someday... I use a Sprint EVDO card for my laptop. Ugh!
