no i'm just curious as to which route is cheaper. doing a billiet piece or getting a CF piece like the one pictured.

i have no idea as to how much either process is on the production side. just posing the question. either way i'm very excited to see what phunk turns out.

One of my best friends is on the deepest level of product R&D and manufacturing at AMS. They are actually right down the street from me.

They have been to the moon and back to get that intake manifold into production and are still sorting out loose ends. I have thought about asking them if they would be interested in selling me the CF plenums, but I already know the answer. That said, I know exactly where to get it made, but its not cheap... and the last thing it is, is QUICK

Billet would not be cheaper in materials but would be easier to reproduce consistently so there is a trade off... Higher material cost and machine time but lower labor.

Carbon fiber is lower material cost but higher labor...

The cost of the product will have to be determined as which is cheaper to produce and still be reliably reproduced and perform without failure. This is something Phunk will have to determine once he gets his prototypes built.

Making the billet plenums isnt really "expensive" for me since I can machine them in-house. But the machine that makes them is expensive and can be pumping out parts that would be worth more per hour of machine time. But thats OK, my machine isnt running 24/7 so until it is, I dont have to choose only the most profitable items to run through it.

Making a pattern/die/whatever-you-want-to-call-it for the CF wouldnt be a big deal, and if all other things work out, I have no reason to not at least get a quote on the CF plenums.

Thing is, for the GT-R its a lot easier to build a successful manifold, its a turbo engine. Everyone is going to gain big power for it, with minimal cost to low end that nobody really even cares about in a 1000+ hp car.

Reliability is the concern. Cracking or flanges busting off the plenum. If your lucky, the engine just screams to redline and bangs off the limiter rapid fire until you turn it off. Another scenario is a piece of it runs down into a cylinder and effectively destroys the engine.

Cosworth stopping making their CF plenums for their DE intake manifold....

Wonder what the gains would be on a NA set with FI LTH's, FI CBE, Stillen G3's, and ported TB's along with a uprev tune. I know z1 kit minus the tb claims 340 ish to the wheels but lose a decent amount up-top.

We dont know yet. It will depend on a lot of factors in the design. After talking with Charles yesterday it seems like he has several versions of the design and is evaluating which one he wants to go with. Expect something that will be functional and sound in theory. As far as power is concerned depending on the design will depend on where one makes power. I have offered to help where I can since I have both an N/A Z and a Hi Horsepower Z...

I am giving my support as I know CJ-motorsports is a small company and the product has to be perfect from day one. Hopefully, it will get in the CNC machine here shortly.

bullitt I talked to you at Z1 Friday. I didn't know you were following this project. Will you keep me in the loop on this? I'm staying NA for a reason but I'd love to find some extra power with this and I believe it's possible. Looking forward to seeing this in production.

When this comes out if you want to do some comparison test, Vs the M370 and a ported G37/370Z upper intake with a ported lower let me know. test these as we speak.

Great work phunk !
