Smile My 3" Exhaust Project (Test Pipe Hissing Solved)

Well here it is....

The Famous test pipe hissing sound is completely gone. 2.5" exhaust didn't let out the carbon monoxide fast enough and generated the hissing sound. Going with 3" exhaust eliminated a lot of back pressure therefore completely eliminating the hissing sound.

Next month is the famous Fast Intentions Twin Turbo setup.

I've been work with my exhaust shop for over 5 years now. If you decide to jump on a project like this, definitely source the mufflers/flex pipes yourself. Flex pipes were purchased from Amazon, Mufflers were purchased from a local manufacturer. 3" exhaust is a very tight fit, find a good and reputable shop to do the work.

I'll post up a sound clip sometime this week.

It would probably lose power at that point. That's too much flow and not enough back pressure. I actually just redid my exhaust FP. its up in the MA thread. No hiss on mine and no obnoxious rasp on decel. Just longtube headers and stock muffler delete.

link?

soooo no mufflers and any resonators? sounds like without mufflers you'd end up with some rasp but i could be wrong.

2.5" LTH's and 2.25" stock exhaust with custom short tails.

Its atleast 25% louder over the ARK+FI combo

100% there is a power loss do to lack of back pressure. (probably power loss from 0 to 4000rpms, maybe a power gain from 4000 to 7500rpms)

Relieving back-pressure will always increase power, but at the expense of low end. The power loss being felt is most likely the loss in velocity of the exhaust gasses at low rpm. The returns in top end of course diminish the larger you go. Hence why dual 2.5" recommended, 2.75 max on a NA car, heck maybe even on supercharged Z's too.

You should use mandrel bending to reduce the restriction in the corners.

2.75 all day! I'll be doing a review later this week on my Beluga CBE. As of right now I have CNT resonated TP's with the 2 end resonators deleted off of my stock exhaust. Very loud especially at a cold start. I'll run sound clips of before and after.
