Exactly, this thread is great but it is too much for a potential buyer to have to sift through. I don't mind that it keeps going but I want something easier for new prople. BTW, the headers are coming along quite nice. I have a G37 coming in the first week of December to test5 fit them on. I know you want them as soon as they are done, right?

G37Sam 11-17-2009 01:13 PM

Ok, so there have been a ton of reviews about the F.I. TDX catback already. And I wasn't going to do a review, but after driving it, I just had to comment.

Firstly, Tony's customer service is amazing. Very informative, helpful and no sales pressure whatsoever. I went with the 18" resonators, and the exhaust was shipped exactly in the timeframe Tony quoted. Packaging was immaculate, you can tell Tony and his team took the proper precautions.

Sound: (10/10) As others have said, there is a bit of drone around 2-3k cruising range, but it is to be expected and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Someone else said this, but the Youtube videos do not do this exhaust justice. Upon acceleration the sound of this exhaust is out of this world, bar none the sexiest exhaust note of any car I've ever driven. I drove around for a solid hour just accelerating to keep hearing that deep/exotic tone the exhaust has, smiling the entire time. Another important aspect is the fact that it is not so loud that it hinders conversation with someone sitting in the passenger seat (I've had an exhaust on a prior car where you had to raise your voice to communicate). I foresee no problem tiring of this amazing exhaust note on my daily commute and certainly not under aggressive driving.

Performance: (10/10) Now, I couldn't dyno the car after the install, but you can certainly feel that the car is less restricted now. Throughout the entire rpm band the car feels more responsive and at round 4-5k, the car comes to life. Honestly, just comparing my car pre-T.I. catback to now, you really get a sense of how restrictive the stock exhaust really was. This car feels like it should now.

Looks/Fitment/Practicality: (10/10) The exhaust uses high quality steel and the welds are a thing of beauty, almost a shame they're hidden once installed. Installation was a breeze, no fitment issues and no adjustments needed to be made. As far as looks, the exhaust passes with flying colors, the tips are not too big (no hint of "rice" there) and they do not stick out far past the bumper (reference Stillen's exhaust). I also love the fact that the exhaust tips are angled in (like the stock tips), making it more flush with the bumper. I live in an area with a ton of bumps and dips, and I foresee no problem in scraping this exhaust at all, even if/when I end up lowering the car.

From customer service to the exhaust itself, I honestly could not be happier. I would have no problem recommending Tony's exhausts to anyone looking for a top quality product.

Once they are completed, we will launch: "Fast Intentions Long Tube Headers Are Here"!

Until then, just imagine them in your mind. MAYBE I will post some spy photos soon!

Tony, quick question about Long tube headers, with no cats will this create rasp?
I am getting over the fact that I may just run my car without cats (yes illegal), but more power. :D

Just save them until you need your emissions inspected, swap it out, do the test, swap it back.

Nah, in Texas we just do an OBD-II check and visual inspection, and it is soooo tough to get under the car and time consuming. ;)

Nice. Lucky! So then technically it's not illegal :happydance:

It can't be illegal if they don't check for it.

Good question about the rasp. We have some tricks up our sleeve to combat that if t becomes an issue. I will not know though until they are completed.

Whats up with that exhaust???

I have faith in you Tony that this setup will magically somehow someway not be raspy :) Let's keep that sexy FI tone :JAMIN:

I am not an expert but I think I might have the 'secret' to the rasp...

First things first...the LTH might resolve it all together because I am sure its going to change the resonance completely because of where the pulses meet etc etc...So they might cure it with that alone.

Second...On almost all G/Z's (including mine) the rasp is at its loudest in the 2-4k range, and can sound different depending if your test/hfc/res test...But one thing that seems to be certain is WHERE the rasp sounds off in the exhaust piping. The location seems to be right BEFORE the X/H/Y location in the exhaust. On mine, you can almost FEEL the sound pinging off the pipes in that area...(before the GTM res test pipes, its no where near as loud anymore)

So - from what I can tell, only one company got it right so far and its that redesigned invidia exhaust where they got those huge resonators in that exact location! Coincedence? I dont know...

I havent really heard anyone with full test pipes + FI exhaust so I cant comment on how much rasp (if any) they are actually experiencing. But I think (hope) the LTH might just cure it complete or throw it off further into the exhaust where FI's current resonators can distrupt it in that area...

Either way - I'm very close to just going with a full FI setup once I see those LTHs!!!

I know it'll change with LTH's, but, how it will change is up for question.

That said, I don't notice ANY rasp. I do hear a lot of low-frequency resonance in the 1.7-2.5K RPM range, but I think that's more of a matter of the natural resonance of the cabin of the car, than anything else.

The second time I drove around with it, it wasn't as pronounced as I remembered.

I also went around to all the speed bumps that I know to see if I hear a "CLUNK" - so far so good! :0

G37Sam 11-20-2009 04:57 PM

I agree with you in the low rpms it was more of a natural resonance inside the cabin.. but i've heard quite a few vids on the VQ35s with Long Tubes (not on FI of course, I have faith in those) and their setup was somewhat raspy, maybe it's the catback :dunno:

Exactly - when I switched from full test pipe to res test pipes mine quieted down alot and I only get that brief resonance/rasp in the 1.8-2.4k range...

G37Sam 11-20-2009 05:13 PM

Yeah I saw a night & day difference when I custom resonated my test pipes locally

Zsteve 11-20-2009 05:17 PM

so will the LTH have resonators too? And what is the difference between LTH and STH with resonated test pipes? From FIs graphs I only saw about a 4 hp gain with the test pipes over the HFCs.

G37Sam 11-20-2009 05:47 PM

The long tubes have no room for resonators in them that's the thing

Tony is saying he has a few tricks, so we're all holding our panties and waiting haha

Zsteve 11-20-2009 08:26 PM

Getting mine installed tomorrow morning, cant wait. Everything came in fine Tony no damages, thanks.

That is what I like to hear. I just finished installing one on a Nismo 370. I have to say, with that body kit the exhaust looks insane! Keep me posted and do not hesitate to ask if you need anything...

Thanks, Tony
