Non res for the win! Mine is insanely deep under 3k rpm, if you want it quieter in cabin then I guess resonators are good. I get a lot of drone when crusing 2k-3k rpm, but it sounds so great you can't help but love it. Also, you can just swap x pipes if you want to change non res/resonated setups.

brucelidat 09-14-2011 02:30 PM

following this thread is not good for my patience, making em want it too much, and my install isn't until november 18th! #398, haha

Glokwork 09-14-2011 03:23 PM

Also the alignment issue I have does not have anything to do with FI. It's due to the ERZ/CNT HFCs that I'm running, the passenger side one is a little shorter. Just wanted to clear that up and Tony is going out of his way to send me gaskets to fix the problem caused by another manufacturer, he's the man :tiphat:

idk whats worse. you having awhile to wait or me only having another week or so (pending how far behind tony is) to get mine in.

i'm dying here knowing today was the start of my estimated initial shipping week :shakes head: but shouldnt be toooo much longer now #373 hopefully here soon.

brucelidat 09-14-2011 04:13 PM

He told me when I ordered that things were calming down a bit and they might start to get a bit more caught up. Said mine was a conservative estimate and i could be a week sooner. I hope he's right.

I was recommended the Stage 2. I thought about it very hard and sometimes changed my mind, but after pulling the trigger it's well worth it if you plan to keep the car for a long time. The sound is very satisfying (even quieter), and even at 6 PSI it's easy to get in trouble in 3rd on the freeway. Off boost, it's pretty much stock.

I was looking at doing the Stage 2 SC so I wouldn't have to give up my headers, but with the extreme shadyness from GTM, and talking to Z1 about install prices... I've decided I'll prolly go the TT route, and Stage 2 is right where I'd like to be power wise. And if one day I decide I want moar, I can just upgrade...

Glad to see your install was a success! Now that you're done with that, lets talk LED swaps... :rofl2:

Since the resonator is in the X pipe, the solution would probably be nothing more than having FI build you another X pipe section with 12" resonators. You could then swap them out yourself whenever you like... Or sell the 18" resonators to someone who has No Res or the 12" and wants to be able to quiet it down if need be... Either way, it's doable.

All these people are hearing from Tony...
Im # 371 and have yet to hear anything

zpodz 09-16-2011 01:56 AM

Made the call today! After talking with Tony for 25 minutes...I'm feeling really good about this purchase! Went with SS CBE and 12" resonators and keeping stock cats. So yea, after Thanksgiving I will be driving up to LA and get the install, then drive back with a stock exhaust jammed in my car and a big grin on my face. :) After 24K miles she is finally getting her voice!

#401 Here I come!

Just installed the LTH and the 18'' res last night. The long tube headers were very frustrating to install. From getting the heat shield out to getting to the nuts on the stock manifold. But worth every penny. the cat back exhaust was very straight forward and the fitment was nothing short of amazing.

But the most important note I have to say is to be VERY careful swapping out the air/fuel senors in the stock manifold. 3 of the 4 came out without a hitch, but the 4th must have been cross threaded when installed, bc it was mangled when I removed it...this sensor is $500 !

I didnt want to start/ or run the Z without the sensor just to be on the safe side...so unfortunately I cant comment on the sound. But looks amazing!

oh yeah, last thing...I would 100% advise to pre PB Blaster ALL of your nuts and bolts leading up to the install. Almost went though a whole can...life saver.

Thanks guys. I attached a picture of the Z on the lift where it will stay untll i get my sensor...Sittin above the Viper comp coupe.

I've got about 150 miles on mine now and it's gotten a lot quieter. Non res with HFCs and now it's not even half as loud as the washer mod. WTF happened?

The glass pack in the mufflers is settling and the HFC's cells are collecting material.

It's just very quiet right now. Cold start its on the loud side, but after that its quiet. Above 4k rpm it's barely louder than when I just had HFCs.

Yup. That's called breaking it in.

Maybe you should get some headers instead of those HFC's... :stirthepot:

I would love to have the LTHs they are amazing, but from what I've heard HFCs and TPs are louder than the LTHs...not sure if thats true, just what I've heard. Also I'm so close to pulling the trigger on the amuse partial cf rep

Yes, HFC's are louder than LTH's on startup, and on cruising, but when you open up the headers man, thats when they come to life. Thats what I like about them.

You are one of few my friend that say it is (too) quiet! Most tell me it quiets down but to the point where it is perfect for them. Now if you want to get more sound and more performance but not go overboard with spending than go with our test pipes or resonated test pipes. Either way your performance will increase as well as the sound. That is what you are trying to achieved, right?

Give me a call if you like and we can discuss options.

Have a great weekend...

Thanks, Tony

Thanks Tony. Don't get me wrong the exhaust note is beautiful, really brings out the best of the VQ. I just happen to like things really loud. If I could run LTHs and straight pipes no mufflers and make them exit at the rear of the side skirts that would be phenomenal! The HFCs I have now are pretty loud even with stock exhaust, but they do have some rasp I'm not crazy about. If I could I would get the LTHs in a heartbeat, I would need ceramic coating and the price is just too much for me with my other plans. I'm really not sure if the TPs would be much if any louder than the 200 cell HFCs I'm running now.

SeeyaBud86 09-17-2011 01:03 AM

I would love to hear what the 3" system sounds like compared to the 2.5". I'm sure there isn't much of a difference but still would be interesting.

Testpipes would be quite a bit louder I'm sure. Have you ever heard them in person?

Yes but he had TPs paired with the invidia which is a different beast. Still wasn't loud at all

Just wanted to add.... Got my install done(a few days ago--been enjoying the car)!, started working on it, along with my oil cooler and intake mods with a buddy of mine the same night it arrived, after two evenings of work it was all done and buttoned up... exhaust sounds -and looks- amazing, cant help but rev it when I drive under overpasses, such as one right before a stoplight near my house (havent been in a tunnel yet but my palms just got slighty sweaty thinking about it heh) Res HFCs and nonres CBE is an awsome combo, thanks for the recommendations Tony.

brucelidat 09-17-2011 06:32 PM

Got the resonated HFCs this week from a forum member. Now it's a waiting game until November when I will get the CBE and have them both installed at the same time.

Ardent_Z 09-19-2011 10:58 AM

I installed my FI cat-back on Sunday. Everything went smoothly except that I broke one of the bolts on the passenger catalytic converter. I went ahead with the install anyway. There wasn't a perceptible exhaust leak, but I plan on taking the car to the shop to have them blow out the bolt with a torch and replace it.

On the bright side, the exhaust looks and fits great.

jpritche 09-19-2011 07:53 PM

Installed it tonight with some buddies. It sounds phenomenal. Will update tomorrow

Edit: So I went for a drive tonight after doing the hot/cold cycles. I took it very easy, and plan too for a good while. I am not sure how long I need to be easy on it, so if anyone knows, please shed some light.

To begin with, Tony has been awesome in the service department. He has called me multiple times, and I have called him a bunch also and he has always been there to answer.

The exhaust looks AMAZING. Even though when we finished the install it was at night and hard to see, it still looked amazing.

It sounds even better. I smile every single time I start it up. I hope it doesn't get any quieter, cause its perfect right now.

The install was very easy, however the hard part was UNinstalling the old exhaust. Even after soaking the bolts with penetrating oil, there were still PITA to get out. We had to literally drill through one of the nuts, because we accidentally stripped it. But after we got it uninstalled, the 4 of us got it reinstalled in about an hour and 10 minutes. Everything came out perfect. The right side tip sits a tad bit higher than the left, so I am going to do as the instructions recommends and take a washer and shim the hanger on that side so that it is level with the other side...no big deal. I am COMPLETELY happy with how everything turned out, and it was the best 4 months of waiting in my life...now its time for some new tires :)

My_third_Z 09-20-2011 08:02 PM

Woohoo! Got my tracking number today. It is scheduled to be delivered next Monday, and I just happen to have that day off. I'll be sitting by the door anxiously waiting. Hell, I'll probably have my car on jack stands with the old exhaust off already.
