How is it a bad business move? It's smart business. Know your competition...price your products accordingly to where your target customers see a better value in your product and opt to buy your product over your competitors, even if it is more.

I'm saying how I'd do it...but I'm not F.I..

Trust me, one person saying he'd pay $2000 isn't gonna make F.I., or any business, rethink their pricing strategy.

I got my exhaust on Friday and it arrived in perfect condition... and that was traveling all the way from CA to FL.

The install was quite easy ( 55 mins) but I had a friend help me and we had a lift.

The sound is amazing. Sounds like a porsche/G35.

At first, I thought the sounds was just a tad loud for me, as I was used to the stock exhaust quietness.... but I lacked that growl when I punched it... well, the growl is there!! Sounds amazing, and it is much louder than stock, even at low RPMS-- no surprise there.

So the first day, I had mixed emotions, but after a day of driving it, the sound is great. It gives the car that "somethingit needed to make it feel like a real sports car.

The loudness is quite tolerable, but again, it is much louder than stock at highway speeds.

All in all---- I am very very satisfied with the exhaust. The feeling that the engine is going to fall apart at high rpms is gone and the car definitely feels like it can breath better.

Which version did you go with? Oh and from the time it got shipped, how long did take to get to your house?

Where do you get $2000?

Ricochet48 11-09-2009 01:27 PM

Owners, how's the sound on the highway. I'm a huge car audio guy and don't want a loud drone. I want it to be aggressive when I drive WOT etc, but tam(er) when just cruising.

Thanks

m4a1mustang 11-09-2009 06:58 PM

It can get pretty loud on the highway if you are under load.

If you are a real big audio guy like you say, you probably wouldn't even like the stock noise levels. No sound deadening, hatchback, and loud tires = lots of noise.

Philipp 11-09-2009 08:52 PM

Tony,

If you want my "soon to become a paying client" opinion: forget those LTH developments and get me MY CBE asap...

Since you already have a good customer base that will stick around for the next 3-5 years, then forget the ones that haven't had a chance to pay you yet (and YES, believe me, they all want to pay FI asap!).

ps. Don't delay restarting the work on the LTH when my CBE is shipped.:tiphat:

My F.I. exhaust/HFC review!

32 Attachment(s)
Without further hesitation, here is my review of the infamous F.I. TDX catback exhaust system:

So, I have been wanting to change out the stock exhaust since I bought the car back in June. I finally got around to doing so during the late summer, but I didn't know what options to choose (i.e., 12" resonators / 18" resonators / no resonators, HFC?, CF option), so I emailed Tony and got my first taste of great customer service. He let me know all of my options and suggested what he thought I would be happiest with, all without trying to take advantage of my wallet. I wound up getting the 18" resonators/non-CF option and HFCs.

I received my exhaust system about a month later (due to the huge demand for this incredible exhaust). I unwrapped it from the massive amounts of bubble wrap, and to my dismay it had arrived damaged courtesy of UPS (see below pics). :shakes head:
http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1257821829

I called Tony right away and, long story short, he started building me a new exhaust right away after I sent back the damaged one. He was available every time I called to ask him any question I may have had or to voice my concern about any step along the way. Even though UPS denied the damage claim, I received my new (undamaged) system less than TWO weeks later!! Now, that is what I call great customer service!

I had the system installed this past Thursday, which took about 2 hours total. Once installed, the tech started the car and boy oh boy did it rev to life!!! I couldn't contain my excitement and I was grinning from ear to ear like the Grinch on Christmas Day! When other guys say videos don't do the tone of the exhaust justice, let me tell you that they aren't kidding. The tone is SOOO deep and exotic that it still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Note: I dynoed the car before and after for the entertainment and curiosity of those performance buffs out there. :driving: Keep in mind that I already had the Stillen G3 intakes installed PRIOR to the "before" dyno! I won't continue to ramble on about my personal story, so below you'll find my review summary along with some pics for your visual pleasure. However, I, unfortunately, don't have a video camera so no videos are included. Please don't hesitate to PM me with any questions/comments/suggestions!!

Looks/Quality: (10/10) The welds on every piece were meticulously done, and the quality of steel is superb. The cans and resonators are super smooth and shiny. I even took the time to look for fingerprints and could find none whatsoever!

Fitment: (9/10) There were no fitment issues between F.I./F.I. pieces or F.I./stock pieces. But after the installation, the left tip was not perfectly aligned so it had to be adjusted. A small 5-minute setback; nothing to complain about.

Sound: (10/10) This thing is incredible. For those who've seen/heard every video related to this exhaust absolutely cannot appreciate the superior tone it offers. It is very deep, throaty, and has no hint of "rice" at all. As expected, the HFCs do present with a noticeable hiss upon deceleration between 2-3K RPMs. The exhaust note is fairly quiet when cruising, but roars to life upon moderate-heavy acceleration. The sound is sexy as hell and EXOTIC EXOTIC EXOTIC!!!!!

Performance: (10/10) WOW! You don't realize how restricted a sports car really is until you take those restrictions away. The car pushed hard before upon heavy acceleration, but now it truly hauls ***! Together with the intakes, HFCs and exhaust, I can definitely tell the car can breathe freely and put its power to the wheels. (See dyno results below for further info)

Practicality: (8/10) The cans do ride pretty low to the ground, but I don't see a time when they would scrape unless one forgets to be careful. Originally, I was going to get the straight X-pipe, but Tony talked me out of it especially since I've got a 7AT. I am glad he did. The exhaust with 18" resonators is PLENTY loud, and I'm only a 25-year-old guy. I like loud, but any louder would surely get old very quickly. And for those complaining of the high-pitched sound coming from the ECU (myself included), this exhaust takes care of it! There is a slight drone during cruising under moderate load. With light or no load, however, (i.e., coasting) there is no drone at all. This car is my daily driver and I know I will not tire of hearing the exhaust note on a daily basis. In fact, since the installation last Thursday, I've been driving in manual mode ~80% of the time. :D

For those still debating on which exhaust system to buy, I strongly urge you to go with this system. Tony really is the best guy you will come across in terms of receiving spectacular customer service. He will go above and beyond to ensure you, the customer, are 110% satisfied. And I promise you that you will not find a better bang for your buck than this system right here.

Again, let me know if you've got any questions/comments. Until next time! :happydance: :bowrofl: :hello:

It's not like they're halting production on everything to develop LTH's...and, most of the delays you're feeling is due to UPS screwing up two systems.

As someone who is 100% satisfied with mine (hell, 110%), I can emphatically say:

DON'T BUY THIS!!!

I'm a major audiophile, and if the car was my primary source of music (I think the home is more appropriate than a car for quality listening) I would be going crazy. This exhaust sounds like a dream, but you will most definitely hear it over the music unless you listen at extremely loud levels; even then, you will feel it enough that a decent audiophile should be thinking "interference at low frequency... must stop!"

Well, it is not fair to say "DON'T BUY THIS!!!" due to the fact that you bought the Carbon Fiber mufflers and the 12" resonators. There are quieter versions. Ex: Stainless Steel mufflers and 18" resonators. Now, with that being said, I am glad that you are enjoying yours. Let me know if you need anything...

Thanks, Tony

Yea, want to remove the 18" resonators and run pipe only since I put the stock cats on and it's not manly enough for me but ohhhh does it sound great.

NewYorkJon34 11-10-2009 08:14 PM

Are the Carbon fiber mufflers louder/better sounding? I ordered the 18" CF, so I'm not that worried about it being too loud. It's a sports car after all, and nothing an audio upgrade could not fix.

Thanks Tony for the order, can't wait to see it.

As far as the response about the noise level, take my advice, I had a full Alpine system installed and its absolutely great! I'll post some details on the Audio Video thread but they put a 12 inch sub where the spare goes, two amps in the well and a thin board to cover it all. Everything is Alpine and the weight was next to nothing. No exhaust out that can muffle 2 amps, a sub and all the speakers. (stock system was horrible)

Anyway, can't wait for the exhaust, Tony was full of great info and wonderful Customer Service, that's why I went with him despite the wait. Phase two of the Z build is nearly complete (exhaust and cold air intake). Next, some small parts and perhaps a little paintwork (nothing too crazy). LOVE THIS CAR! Thanks again Tony, look forward to meeting you when my # comes up.

PS. Nismo's dont come with the Bose set up, at least mine didn't.

I doesn't matter how loud any system is, if there's a constant drone (a "muffle") it will interfere will the bass frequencies. The louder the system the less noticeable it will be (as it's less of a percentage of your bass output), but it doesn't just disappear.

I have a full system in my 06 RSX-S hatch with LAYERS of deadening in the entire hatch, doors sealed, subsonic teklite, etc. When I go WOT to like 8600prms it's loud, but when I do that I don't PLAN on listening to music. On the highway at like 3.75k rpms the exhaust is quiet and doesn't interfere at all. My roommate has the same car + a Fujitsubo Powergetter exhaust and it def drones on the highway at higher rpms, enough where it would annoy me. I just want it to be loud when I push it. I guess I'll have to drive in one on the highway to find out myself.

You're better off leaving your exhaust stock, then. Have you driven a 370 yet? Given the description of your RSX it seems like you'd be driven insane by the level of noise... I'm sure you'd be gutting the car and adding lots of sound deadening as this car has absolutely none. Maybe a G37S instead?

All I'm saying (and I should have made this more clear) is that if he is as picky of an audiophile as me (I'm referring to my home system, as the car is just for driving) he shouldn't order ANY aftermarket exhaust, because the whole point of being an audiophile is to not have anything at all interfere with the sound. Unless someone makes a quieter than stock exhaust (I really can't see this happening) it would be counterproductive to his stated goals.

Please, nobody take this as a slam on F.I.! I'd recommend their exhaust to EVERYONE with the exception of someone who is more of an audiohead. I'm literally in love with the sound of it.

UPDATE-LONG TUBE HEADERS

The prototype process is going smooth to this point. We should have something by the end of next week. There will be a seperate thread dedicated to the evolution of the header itself: "Fast Intentions Long Tube Headers are here"!

theDreamer 11-12-2009 04:54 PM

Quick question, will you do long tube headers with cats?

G37Sam 11-12-2009 04:58 PM

He did mention it before, the ones in production now are catless, he may make some mid-length tube headers and throw some cats/resonaters there

THe long tube version will be catless however in the not to distant future, we might do a mid length version with high flow cats.

BTW- are you still on the waiting list for the Berk cat back? Anytime you want to jump ship and come over to the dark side you are more than welcome aboard with us. Feel free to call me directly if you have any questions...
