The RPMs for example will be around 3.5k in 4th, then if I slightly let off the throttle it just dips to 2k and under as if I was holding in a clutch on a manual car rather than gradually descend as it would or should normally. That happens in almost every gear. This is my first mod. Is what I'm feeling the loss of low end torque or maybe some other issue my car maybe having with the gears and holding low RPMs? The car is 2013 2,000 miles on it.

You should actually have an increase in low and mid tq/hp. Put it on a dyno.. another question... did you take a baseline dyno before you installed the CBE?

I agree with you I never have felt a dip in power only increase. Also makes me wish I had dyno places closer to have taken a baseline prior to my exhaust and then with it since I just out my intakes on. I'd have to say I'd be close to the numbers tony has posted on page 1 of this thread being about 308whp with the cbe and test pipes. I'm hoping to dyno mine I spring possibly get a full tune as wheel to me around 320-330whp but fingers crossed since those are big number for just exhaust and intakes plus a tune lol

Yes, this is the combination that I have. Glad I got the HFC. I figured, he's already going to work on it anyway, why not throw that in. I get the thumbs up at stop lights and when simply driving by at cruising speed.

Tone - Low tone growl at lower rpms, sexy burbling sound between 3k to 4k, roars when you floor it. Best way to describe it -- exotic or excitingly unique. Love this exhaust.

Volume - it is loud when you gun it, loud when down shift at midrange, loud when your at 60-70 mph at 2.5 to 3k rpm at 6 gear, down shift to 5th and she sings with an excitingly unique roar. Shift to 4th and your ears asks for more. It is loud when your next to bus, loud when your next to semi, and loud next to a Porsche. It is loud when you're under a bridge, even louder in a tunnel, which by the way is fun times when you down shift. It is loud when Synchro Rev Match kicks in on the downshift. FI + SRM + Tunnel = :happydance:

This said, what do think would it be like in the cabin? Take a wild guess. Tony suggested 18's for a <30 % change for in cabin volume.

Yes there is. Since you're Non-Res it's not as pronounced as those with resonators. But the glass packs do "settle" as you put more miles on it, and the tone changes.

As with any mod, when you bolt it on, your ECU will compensate for the new airflows. A drop in the low end has been noticed on some occasions, and especially with the LTH's. A tune will level these airflows out and regain the losses. Also, I've noticed the problem is seen more with the 7ATs vs 6MTs.

Do most of you guys install the exhaust your self? I have a few local muffler shops here in town but i am not sure if i feel good about them working on my Z. If i had a proper lift i wouldn't mind doing it myself.

Ive done all my work with jackstands. Ill also be doing the exhaust when it comes. Couple weeks left :)

And Tony, I sent you an email a couple days ago!

speedfreek 11-30-2012 12:32 PM

Oh yea well I like the exhaust so much I ordered another one just to have in a box.

I kid I kid. But on this second exhuast it has me wondering if I should upgrade to CF cans. I do love those shiny cans though.

mdxj 11-30-2012 01:21 PM

Edit: got it installed today. I hate doing exhaust so I took it to a local shop where it was done is under 2hrs. $80 well spent and he did a great job. Love the sound and the wait was more then worth it.

henryy370z 12-02-2012 07:58 PM

what number are we in

bdub561 12-03-2012 07:29 PM

Tony's the man! Just thought I'd let everyone know :p

Oh, and im in my ship window! Should be soon :D

kfull 12-04-2012 09:55 AM

Are there any durability differences between stainless steel and carbon fiber as far as like denting/corrosion/anything else? I think if I end up ordering I'd go carbon fiber. Also if anyone has a pic of a gun metallic z with carbon fiber installed I'd love to see it

I cant speak on behalf of the SS but my CF cans are still looking great after 13k miles with them on. my only "blemish" is a very small nick on the drive can from where a rock hit the edge of it. i only saw it because i was under it cleaning up the cans lol

dmhenderson 12-04-2012 01:50 PM

She's under the knife right now. Shop says they had problems getting the stock cats off but managed to do so without stripping either O2 sensor. Should be put back together in about 30 minutes and then I get to watch the tuning process

stock cats are a pain to get off. it's the demon bolts that cause the problem with those.

dmhenderson 12-04-2012 08:33 PM

Back from the install and tune and holy crap is this thing loud. I uploaded one of the 182318238132 dyno pulls onto youtube and I'm waiting for it to appear so I can post it here. Watching it on the video doesn't really give you a good idea of how freaking loud it was in that garage. I have a splitting headache but it was totally worth it.

dmhenderson 12-05-2012 06:46 AM

Here you go. Again, doesn't really do the sheer volume justice but yeah, it's loud.

DM, is that dyno sheet just for the addition of the exhaust or also for HFCs? Do you have CF or SS? What length resonators (if any)?

dmhenderson 12-05-2012 08:12 AM

18" stainless resonators and non-resonated HFCs. I also have a Stillen G3 CAI so ymmv

anyone have non res cbe cf with hfc?

dmhenderson 12-05-2012 10:02 PM

Have you seen that commercial where the iphone 5 dampens background noise when you're not holding it to your head?

That's the issue. If you look at near the end of the video you can see the phone (and me) literally shaking from the ridiculous amount of noise it put out.

When he dropped into 5th gear and floored it there I actually said "holy F*ck" outloud and you can't even hear it despite the fact that I'm holding the damn camera less than a foot from my face.

Fast Intentions Twin Turbo Kit

Well, I couldn't wait any longer. I finally gave Tony a call about the status of the twin turbo kit Fast Intentions has been promising. I've been lurking on this forum for several months wondering when it would be released. I knew he'd been busy over the summer with moving his shop and everything so I didn't want to bother him. BUT, I'm glad I did !! Man, I'm stoked now ! I don't want to give away any specifics, but from talking to him, it sounds like Tony's attention to detail and quality of work is gonna carry over into this kit tenfold to make this the best twin turbo kit on the market!! He said they were trying to get it done by Christmas but looks like it'll be closer to middle of January. I'm betting the wait will be worth it !!!

dmhenderson 12-06-2012 04:22 PM

I want to see the price tag ;)

No Doubt about it! It is looking very nice. Your paitence will pay off once again ;)

Chemy 12-06-2012 07:57 PM

Just got my shipping confirmation! Cant wait any more! lol...

Props to Tony. He called me last week when he was about to ship my exhaust and said there was a small problem with one of the 12" resonators. He stated that I would most likely not have even noticed any issue if he sent it but he said but it did not pass his "test". He returned it promptly and got me a set of new ones. The set back was only about 6 days. I would much rather wait the 6 days then have someone try to slip something by me and have an issue later.. Appreciate the honesty and a job well done. Thanks Tony.

dmhenderson 12-06-2012 08:12 PM

Don't kid yourself a TT kit for this car done right is going to be a ~bare minimum~ of 10k but probably more. I'm honestly more inclined to save for a R35 than I am to do the forced induction thing with this car.

Don't get me wrong, it's my child but that little VVEL V6 isn't meant to take that kind of abuse.

Was your baseline w/ the CAIs and HFCs?

I guess my question is... did you gain the 7whp from the exhaust alone or all three together?
