torque shmorque, torquing gets blown way out of proportion on online forums (except for this one strangely). just a regular ratchet and socket or wrench will be fine and use feel to sense when it is tight enough. the more you do it, the better your natural feel for tightness gets.

Pelican170 04-26-2011 09:03 AM

Finally got the tubes on last night. Took forever. I also still feel like the passenger side is sitting slightly off. Seems like where the breathing tube connects, is pushing on the hps tube and pushing it in a little creating more of an "oval" shape slightly, compared to a circle all around... I think ill leave it alone though at this point...

Armonster 04-26-2011 09:28 AM

Any words of advice on the install? I've got all my stuff sitting at home, waiting for some free time to be installed.

Well, my main problem was fitting that breather tube on the passenger side, as it just seems they dont make them for a perfect fit. Use some sort of lube as mentioned earlier, will probably help alot. Also, take the strut bar out, will give you much more room to work with.

elmz 04-26-2011 10:23 AM

Wow, I didn't have any issues installing this. There really isn't any need to remove the strut. The first thing I realized was the HPS clamps were too difficult to work with so I used the stock clamps. I also thought at first the passenger side was not a perfect fit until I did a side by side comparison. And to my surprise, they were identical in side and shape(user error). The hardest part was getting the tubes to hook up with the air box. But these tubes are pretty durable so don't be afraid to bend or scuff them.

you didn't have a problem with the breather pushing down on the HPS tube? You can notice it where the tube starts to bend... I checked out pics that people have posted on here, and it looks like its doing the same on them, so maybe thats normal or not a big deal? I wish there was a way to remove the stock crank case vent hose and add a new, more flexible one instead of the hard plastic that goes into the intake tube. This is what seems to be giving me the most trouble for whatever reason...

How were those clamps hard to work with. ? Installed the tubes and then installed the clamps. The clamps come apart !!! Also side by side my tubes were different. I took them out of the plastic before installation and just placed them on to the stock tubes to identify which one went where..

Post a picture about the hose. I don't think I had any problems.

Im gonna go home and mess with it later. Ill post a pic before hand to show you what im talking about, not sure how clearly you will be able to see it, but ill give it a shot...

Boost_lee 04-26-2011 04:21 PM

I trimmed my passenger side tube a little bit where the breather hose connects. Fit a little better after that

ANMVQ 04-27-2011 07:28 AM

Has anyone dyno'd with these yet?? Think about these for the wifey's sedan?

Not a bad idea. I didnt have time to mess with it last night but i think if i twist it so that the HPS logo is facing even more to the left, then it will sit better... We shall see...

Look through the initial pages of this thread for the info requested...somewhere around Page 5.

Ok, finally got the tube to sit correctly. I had to twist the passenger side tube more to the left, so the HPS logo is facing almost to the left side. This made the Crank Case tube sit better and wasnt pressing in on the HPS tube itself....

Hey can you take a pic of your setup? I had to rotate my passenger side tube as well, and even though the massive choke-kink is gone and it sits much better, it's still slightly 'deformed' in its shape...

Mark Gomez 05-01-2011 09:25 PM

The passenger side tube is B@#$% to install. Had to trim a little off the end that connects to the throttle body and had to bench grind and smooth the plastic knobs off of the breather tube, so it would fit all the way in the HPS hose. Instructions were fine except you do not have to take off the intake cover (not sure why you would have to). even though i didnt want to, i felt i had to take off the strut bar to have room to install the tubes. Just waiting for my fast Intentions exhaust coming this week, then will fire her up and see how everything feels.

Hey sorry i havent had a chance to take that pic yet. Did you get it on? if you look at the pics in this thread, you can see how it should sit. The Crank Case hose part almost faces upward, compared to facing to the side on the drivers side, and the HPS logo will face leftward or far left compared to the drivers side which sits facing up. Ill take the pic tonight...

Yeah I messed around with it a bit more, and my passenger side tube's logo is facing kinda left-middle. Diametrically speaking, the tube isn't exactly O-shaped like my driver side though; there's no major kink/bend in it anymore, but it's still not as perfectly formed as the driver side. I don't think it is so severe that it affects the amount of air going into the engine, per se, but was wondering it you were able to get it to sit in a position that allowed the tube to retain the ideal O-shape.

yea again, sorry I havent posted any pics, very busy week for me. Although, I am not sure I can even get a good shot of it... Where isnt it "O" shaped? the only spot on mine that i thought might be very slightly off, was above the breather tube where the curve is to the throttle body. i think it may be sitting slightly "oval", but very slightly. Im pretty anal when it comes to stuff like this and I was happy with the way it was sitting when i decided I was done. That tube is a royal pain in the a** to get to sit right. im wondering how many others may have had this issue and just left it...

It's all good man, this week has been pretty hectic for me as well. As for the tube, yeah, it's pretty much that part between the throttle-body opening and the breather tube - mine is kinda oval-ish, too. It's not severe or anything, but was just wondering if you (and others) had a similar situation with the install and positioning - thanks for confirming the shape of your passenger side tube man

From Wikipedia:

ETA or Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (English: Basque Homeland and Freedom; pronounced [ˈeta]) is an armed Basque nationalist and separatist organization. The group was founded in 1959 and has since evolved from a group promoting traditional Basque culture to a paramilitary group with the goal of gaining independence for the Greater Basque Country.[4][5] ETA is the main organisation of the Basque National Liberation Movement and is the most important participant in the Basque conflict. In 2011 ETA declared a "permanent, general and verifiable" ceasefire with the expressed aim of ending its campaign.

Just kidding dude - it means "estimated time of arrival"

I have had two different types of intakes installed on my z and it's all been a waist of money. Stay stock and keep a fast z. Intakes will make your car louder and slower. You will loose all the quickness. Just a nice exhaust and your set.

K&N drop ins are the way to go,,,,

The HP gain isn't significant enough for the butt dyno to detect (it's only ~5HP), but hey, it's cheap  I'll admit that sometimes I think the throttle is a bit more responsive, and it pulls a bit more, but that could be the self-fulfilling prophecy of human nature. Please don't take this as me trying to be a douche, just trying to make your expectations more realistic and in line with the mod :tiphat:

Understood, and thanks! It's a cheap mod that doesn't make the car look like it was modded cheaply. And really 500$ for an intake system that might net another 5hp really isn't worth it for me at this time. I'd rather make my car handle and have it look legit.
