My new HPS post MAF tubes installed

I got home from a bus. trip last night and my new HPS post MAF tubes had arrived from Corsport. I installed them this morning. It was a fairly easy install once I came to the conclusion that I had to do as the instructions indicated and remove the strut bar. The new tubes are much thicker than the stock tubes and should provide better insualting qualities than the stock tubes, and the look much better, IMO. I went for a drive and It did seem that throttle response was slightly improved, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part. I already have the K&N drop ins so I think that this will be my final intake mod. Here are some pics. The last pic is of the stock driver side tube. What is the purpose of the chamber hanging from it? There was no provision for it on the new tubes, and I didn't notice any negative effects from not having it.

i believe the chamber is for noise cancellation/baffle of sorts..

Jordo! 10-22-2010 12:09 PM

There's also a PCV function for at least one of them.

Azroadster 10-22-2010 12:21 PM

The existing PVC lines were connected to the new tubes, but the chamber had no connections to anything other than the stock tube. I am assuming it is some kind of noise reducing chamber similar to what is used on exhausts. I certainly don't think it is going to hurt anything not being there anymore.

I believe it is a resonator. Might reduce intake "noise" at certain RPM ranges. But I didn't notice any difference when I put my Cobb hoses on and took that resonator off.

6spd 10-22-2010 01:42 PM

any increase in intake volume?

Azroadster 10-22-2010 01:50 PM

I didn't notice any this morning when I went for a test drive, but being an old fart I can't hear that well anymore. :icon17:I also have a Stillen CBE that kind of drowns other sounds out, at least to me. I was looking for something that looked better than the stock tubes and hopefully help with air flow and keeps the air a little cooler. When I get a chance to drive more I will post anything else.

I'm stock other than K&N dropins and these pipes, and I , as well as my passenger could tell a slighly louder intake

shabarivas 10-22-2010 01:54 PM

Looks good but would look better w/out that silver crap on the strut bar

kenchan 10-22-2010 01:56 PM

hey looks good, AZ. :)

Thanks so much for sharing your opinion.

The K&N Short Intakes that I installed didn't have that extra chamber either.
I wouldn't worry about it.
It might have to do with noise reduction. I think the car is a lot louder when I stomp it. :eekdance:

Oh, then never mind -- yes, just resonator :p

One_Quick_Z 10-23-2010 10:31 AM

Congrats on the install!

I have a set of these coming monday in the mail!

Nice! Interested in hearing about your impressions as you do more driving. I, too, along with the K&N drop-ins would probably only consider this option as far as intake mods go.

LightsOut 11-05-2010 11:04 AM

hummm... I've been interested in doing this for awhile now.

I have takeda intakes and if this feels better, I just might be selling my intake.

GZ3 11-05-2010 11:18 AM

bamboozled**

XwChriswX 11-05-2010 01:57 PM

I have a similar setup, I went K&N's as well, but I got a good deal on a set of black Cobb tubes so I snatched those up. The stock intakes are actually pretty maxed out. This is why I couldn't see dropping $400-500 for a full up aftermarket intake... :ugh2:

I'm hoping to get a Dyno done here soon to see how my setup is pre-tuning.

+1, just improving on the design a little is really all you need...I got the HPS hoses, and now the AFE dry flow dropins...dont really know where to improve after this.....!?!

How long did it take for you to get them from Corsport? Its been 10 days and I have not gotten mine. It took them like 3 days to ship and the USPS is taking forever:eekdance:

Intake tubes should be here tomorrow -- will dyno as soon as I get them on. Probably by next week... will post details in the Proven Power Dyno Database thread.

It took about a week. I was gone for most of that time so I really didn't care. I don't think they drop shipped them. They got them and then sent them to me, which of course takes more time.

Did you ever post dyno results?

I was just about to say the pin striping looks good.

Philipp 01-26-2011 03:34 PM

Corsport sent my order at a wrong address (actually I should say in the wrong COUNTRY  )!!! I hope I'll get my tubes before spring arrives....

henry0844 01-29-2011 05:23 AM

took them a month to get me two k&n dropins and the hps tubes. they r a little slow on the delivery side of things.

Jordo! 01-29-2011 03:56 PM

BTW, I have revised my review of the HPS tubes.

I'd say they are worth it, overall a good supplement to K&N panels filters that will net a few extra whp/tq throughout the power band.

The two combined will definitely perform about as well as any other aftermarket intake I've seen at a fraction of the cost.

KB2 01-31-2011 08:18 PM

does anybody have a actual dyno of these? preferably on a STOCK z...claims it adds power and you guys claim it feels better...just wondering if there is any actual proof, prolly buy them anyway lol

6spd 01-31-2011 08:42 PM

there is one around here where a guy got about 12 hp at one point of the dyno w/ the tubes and filters, and steady gains over the entire rage.

GZ3 01-31-2011 09:09 PM

^ i think you might be talking about me... gained 12rwhp with just hps intake hoses and AFE drop in filters. I posted the dyno somewhere here...let me see if i can find it
