Am I wrong to think then that all CAI Pipes should be cold under normal driving conditions? Or is it that the Injens just lack a heatshield?

Under hood temps will warm the pipes, and a heat shied would help.
the Exception would be if the ambient temp is cool. then the pipe would feel cool.
