Injen Intake

I had my intake installed yesterday. Went for a drive for a couple of minutes. Check the intake, and both tubes were really hot. Is that normal??

It's really hot under the hood, and since you got shorties, you are only sucking in hot air through those.

Take it back to the shop that installed the intakes and have them look at it.

I did it myself. I was just checking to see if this is normal with other injen owner. I guess I'm going to take it apart and check it next weekend.

If it feels normal and you got the engine to normal temp, and the engine isn't missing, then thats normal for the tubes to absorb heat from the engine with the hood closed. You do have the long tubes right?

Yup it's the long tubes. No abnormal sounds or shakes during idle/driving. So maybe it's normal.

If It's idling just fine, and you have no cel light pop up your good.

Am I wrong to think then that all CAI Pipes should be cold under normal driving conditions? Or is it that the Injens just lack a heatshield?

Under hood temps will warm the pipes, and a heat shied would help.
the Exception would be if the ambient temp is cool. then the pipe would feel cool.

gotcha! Thanks!

Long or short, it's going to get hot. If it's under the hood, it'll get hot. I'd say you're fine, just don't get a ticket for speeding when trying to hear them scream at WOT.

Have you guys ever touched the metal part of the hood prop after a long drive? Our engine bays get HOT, so everything is going to heat soak.

johnnydrama 07-12-2010 08:59 AM

yea this is normal. With my G3s when i go for a drive and then pop the hood the pipes r cool but just after a few minutes of sitting in the engine bay without the car running the tubes heat up very quickly.
