Default Exhaust tips getting HOT!!!?

Hey guys,

I just installed the AAM Resonated Short Tails (only mod)...I was grabbing my bag out of the trunk the other day after driving and my leg hit the tip and gave me a quick burn! I was really shocked how hot the tips were. Hot enough that you could only quickly tap them with your hand for a second or so. I don't know if the tips on the stock muffler got this hot as I never checked. Definitely don't want them distorting the paint/plastic on the bumper long term. What do you guys think? Should they be getting this hot? I doubt this could be anything to do with the way the car is running because its such a small mod that the ECU would adjust to. Would hate to see the bumper discolored or burnt like one of those ricer civics...

Thoughts?

Absolutely normal. And it won't affect your bumper at all, the only time discoloration occurs on your bumper is generally from cars with catalytic converter deletes.

I've never heard of an exhaust getting hot, make sure your muffler bearings aren't seizing.

Blinker fluid at only 1500 miles? I'd check the gasket or spill-over valve. It shouldn't be leaking.

Y'all are crazy the stock tips will probably run a little cooler as the muffler gives the gases more time to cool, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.

Please keep the mechanical jokes or none helpful replies to the FB page.

This is the tech section and a member is simply asking for basic help.

Op

There's nothing wrong with your tips as long as the tips are not contacting the bumper it'll be fine.

Keep your lower body away from the exhaust tips as they maybe hot enough to burn especially when the weather gets warmer.

Do we really need to warn people of the obvious?

Please tell me this is a joke lol...in all seriousness the exhaust gets hot...extremely hot. My buddy burned the crap out of his leg on his R1. It shouldn't cause melting nor discoloration but try and be careful man...

You guys should try getting out of a side piped Viper after doing 30 minutes on the track without getting your legs scorched.

If you are replacing your muffler bearings too often. Try adjusting your flux capacitor by using the anti-ricer flyby screws.

What's all this about exhaust tips getting hot? I have ART pipes, Garageline X and Mid-pipe combo, coupled with the stock HKS Nismo exhaust. Mine only are warm after driving, such that I have no concerns with pulling my car cover over them immediately after parking the car.
