Default AAM Resonated Short Tails 2017 370z Nismo

Hey guys,

Wanted to get your thoughts on the AAM Resonated Short Tails for my Nismo. I am doing this purely for sound...I do not expect any HP/Torque gains. I have been doing a lot of research on this topic and there is a lot of controversy if it is a good or bad idea to go with a muffler delete. From what I understand you can either bolt on a CAI or Exhaust without a tune, but after you go CAI and Exhaust its a good idea to tune.

I like the AAM Resonated Short tails, I really think they sound really aggressive. Plan for now would be to bolt on without a tune for them. What do you guys think, good or bad idea? Think this could hinder performance of the vehicle or hurt the engine long term? Thanks!

I've watched several YouTube videos on Z-owners having to chase annoying rattles/buzzes after adding the AAM short tails, and probably other mufflers as well. If you're not OCD about rattles, or don't mind pulling panels off, etc., then let your ears be your guide.

Just in case...save that HKS muffler!

I just went through the same process....I have 2 nismo ..2015 supercharged and a 2017 turbo charged ....on the supercharged I already have test pipes so when I added the short tails .....it was EXTREMLY loud and yes it rattled and buzzed everything ...2 day later I ordered a axle back with small mufflers ..still very loud but nice tone ......now on the turbo nismo ..no cats and short tails ...is a perfect sound ..aggressive sound normal driving and clean note in the whole rpm range. If you keep your cats and just add the short tails it should have a good note and not to overbearing loud. I’m actually considering removing the test pipes and adding cats back in on the supercharged car

So aside from buzzing/rattles, I really like the sound. Considering you've done some heavy mods to your vehicles I want to get your professional opinion. Alot of people say that removing the mufflers will create a loss of back pressure, hence loss of performance/low end torque. Im just curious if the ECU will compensate for the muffler delete? No plans for a tune probably until the warranty is up.

EDIT: Also I have the torque app with OBD II connector..not sure if you are familiar with that. What should I monitor after installing to make sure everything is running correctly?

I think with a CAI and short tails.. you would be fine .. if you do anymore you would prolly need a tune

The AAM Resonated Short Tail exhaust kit is a excellent quality and well designed muffler delete. I have installed five AAM Short Tail exhaust kits and they have excellent fitment on the 370Z platform. I have never seen or heard of any negative effects from installing a AAM Short Tail exhaust kit on a 370Z. The AAM Short Tail exhaust kit will add whp/wtq to your 370Z if you install this kit. There is not enough back pressure lost to make you loss whp/wtq. You will be helping your VQ37HR engine release exhaust gases fastest and more efficiently helping your VQ37HR engine breath better. The whp/wtq gain will be miniscule though. You will benefit from a better sounding 370Z. I am not biased at all in my opinion I think the AAM Short Tail exhaust kit is one of the best sounding muffler delete kits out there for our 370Z. Also the exhaust tips on the AAM Short Tail exhaust kits is very appealing on our 370Z’s as well.

As far as needing a tune I have seen my share naturally aspirated Z’s dyno over the years and you will not know any conditions without using a wideband. For just a cold air intake and exhaust installed your engine pcm will compensate and adjust for these modifications easily and conditions will not be dangerous for your 370Z to constitute needing a tune. If your Z is under warranty and you do tune and your engine PCM did fail you will end up replacing it on your own dime. I would wait to get tuned if you decide to.

I added the AAM resonated short tails and have not had rattles or buzzes since install. Great difference in sound from stock to the short tails.

Quick,

Thanks for the responses. I decided to order the short tails..just a tad disappointed I'm going to lose the engraved "Nismo" lettering on the stock tips! Once I'm confident and happy with the setup I'm sure I can have the stock tips put on.

Im not even running a CAI, so it should not be an issue at all. Not sure if you are familiar with the torque app for android...but for peace of mind what vehicle stats should I monitor post install?

How do you like them? I'm assuming you installed them?

Did you lose any low end torque?

Thanks
