2017 NISMO

just hit 500 miles. mod bug is has already hit.

Decision has been made :: Fast Intentions CBE Non-Resonated.

Thinking CF Cans & Burnt Tips
(is there a sound difference between the SS & CF cans?) i would think not.

Also.... will be dropping in K&N filters for a little extra punch.

What are your thoughts on HFCs?
Not feeling the necessity of it to be honest.... not much more of a power gain...

Someone give me their 2 cents....

HFCs or test pipes are some of the best bolt on power gains for our cars.

yes... but after research.... if you do the CBE...

doing the HFCs after the fact will only get you a little more power.

plus I don't want to risk dealing with the CEL...

orrrrr should i just man up and install CBE + HFCs together...

Link to the posts you researched? My understanding is that HFC/TP are the best bang for the buck mods and should make a pretty decent difference... But I don't have apples-to-apples experience because I am TT'd.

If you just want to sound cool with a little extra power, get the the CBE and K&N drop-ins and be done with it.

If you actually want to make more power, get a CBE, HFC/TP, Z1/Stillen Intake, and an Ecutek tune.

Anything after that and you will be spending a lot for very little return if you remain NA.

That's got to be at least 6 cents worth of advice. =)

Hizzy, call Kevin at F.I., he will literally explain the difference in the sounds. He is super knowledgable. If I had your vehicle I would go with the CF and SS non burnt tips. IMHO, that combo looks mint on a white Nismo. Also, spend a few extra bucks and get the Z1 or Stillen G3 CAI. It looks nicer and you will feel the added HP.

i will have to call them for specifics.

i'm probably overthinking things

i noticed the SS tips are resonated vs. the burnt tips are not...

but CF & SS tips would def look better.

The burnt tips look cool for sure. They are very 'in' right now. The SS tips have a classic look.
Get your order in asap, the wait is excruciating, but well worth it!

I disagree. I'm not sure about numbers on a dyno, but I put my HFCs on after my CBE and felt a difference immediately.

I want to go with just the CBE...
non-res :: CF cans :: SS tips (will def look better on a white nismo)

I'm in it for the sound & the power gains.
but don't really see the need for an extra $500+ for minimal gains adding the HFC

The nismo is too quiet for me stock

check this older thread.... (from my CBE vs. CBE+HFC issue)

The great HFC question for newbies

So which is it noise or power gains? Sorry doesn't seem like both here. Cats do both, and everything adds up.

I can see saying the cats aren't worth it because a tune is recommended. However that would again result in more power, and a car that is more responsive. I could also see maybe even not wanting to deal with the install.

The cats are roughly a third of the cost of the exhaust you are looking at, and you are still saying they add roughly a third of the power at least? I'd say that's substantial. I don't think anyone would deny that factory cats are the most restrictive part of the factory exhaust system.

from what i've gathered from others on this forum....

is that i just can't justify the extra $500+ for a small increment of HP gain with adding the HFC with the CBE...

people are reporting that the first thing you do gets you the most gains.... everything after only adds minimal power gains on our NA VQ's....

I mean.... i'll do the CBE + HFC... i just don't want to deal with potential headaches with CEL coming on in the future & that stuff...

If i can get away with just the CBE.... i'll save the extra money and do that.

just looking for feedback with those that have FI CBE's... and those that have also added the HFC to throw their input in if it's REALLY worth it & the $$$

Generally HFC don't set CEL (I mean they can but most people don't have this issue). Test pipes do. My Berk HFC never triggered my CEL before I got my car tuned. You can have this taken care in a tune anyways. The tune doubled my power gains again, and made a night and day difference in the throttle response on my car so it was money well spent.

To me your talking about spending $1500 for 15 HP, but then $500 for 5 HP is too much expensive? We're not going to change your mind, and no doubt the CBE is much easier to install. The cats are a bit more difficult because of the top bolts on each side.

The cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust, so swapping those out will get you the best gains. Are you planning on installing this stuff yourself? The "demon bolts" on the cats are a bit of a pain.

And FWIW, both the Fast Intentions HFC and Test Pipes have J-Bend style extensions for the sensors, so they're not supposed to set off the Check Engine Light. That being said, I have FI test pipes and catback, and I set off the CEL every few weeks. That's nothing that a $20 code reader from Amazon can't fix, though.

Op know your smog regulations. If your from Boston they might be similar to California. I held off on hfc or test pipes due to the strict smog laws. I didn't feel like putting the cats back on when I trade or resell my car. The wait time for the F.I. Exhaust will be worth it. Put your order in ASAP. I would start with Cbe and see if that is loud enough.
