Default Stillen gen 3 hydrolock?

Anyone hydrolocked with stillen gen 3? I currently have injen long tube and I hydrolock basically every time I drive when it's raining decently hard. I plan on going low soon and the only issue I have right now are finding the perfect intakes so I don't hydrolock from the rain. Any suggestions?

Stillens will not be as prone to cause hydrolock in normal rain unless you decide to drive it into a foot of standing water.

The Ingens are the worse type to have in the event you're driving around and drive thru more than a few inches of standing water as what you're experiencing.

If you simply want to be safe at the cost of some performance?

Stay with the stock intakes with K&N filters.

Honestly don't want to go to stock. I live in arizona so it rains very rarely but I hydrolocked earlier today so figured I'd make a thread about it. I have a wide body coming in soon along with some new wheels so I plan on lowering my Z and hydrolocking is my only issue with going lower

Had Injen. It rained for two months straight here last June and July. Barely got a few water drop marks on the pipes. Not to say it isn't possible of course, but mine went through a lot of nothing that even resembled a concern never mind an actual problem. I was lowered on coilovers at the time too.

That said, would that design likely be more prone to contributing to hydrolocking than others? The practical answer has to be yes.

Um this does not sound right. I doubt you have repeatedly hydrolocked your engine as that would get expensive rapidly. How many engines or conn rods are you on by now? But yes something like the z1 or stillen will be much less likely to hydrolock.

I have stillen G3 longtubes on my car 4 years.
Where I live northern Australia is subject to Monsoons wet season 4 months of every years where a storm can/and will last upto 2 hours and dump 150mm - 250mm of rain - I never get hydro-locked, and I am lowered an inch all round.

I'm not buying OP's first post......

OP: I think you may be misunderstanding the term hydrolock. That is where water gets sucked up into the intakes and fills a cylinder or more. Since water is incompressible, IE it will not reduce its volume under pressure, when the engine tries to do a compression stroke on that cylinder, stuff breaks. Connecting rods, cylinder heads, valves, etc. Basically at that point, the engine is trash.
If your car is dieing when you drive it in the rain, it is more likely an electrical gremlin away from the intake/exhaust system. Even a mist of water into the intakes won't make the engine die. Some dragsters use, or used to use, a water mist or steam injection system to increase compression and horsepower.
For the behind the bumper intakes in our cars to cause hydrolock, you would pretty much have to be WOT in 6 to 8 inches of water, or drive it into a filled ditch.
I hope you find your electrical problem.

A hydro locked engine is one that has had water enter into the cylinder via the intake. When that happens it normally bends or breaks a rod due to the fact that water will not compress. If this happens to you your engine is done. It is very possible a connections is getting wet. Pull the codes and see if you have any. If you do have a couple, this will tell you where to look and check connections.

Nismo R-Tune intake, just do some hunting around for a good price. No cutting, has bypass valves that prevent hydrolock and is extremely well-made. If you plan on having the car tuned, I'd go that route. Has venturi inserts to play nice with the stock tune that you can remove for tuning.

Otherwise, any of the kits that run the filters behind the front grille are a good alternative. You'll see gains with the Stillens without tuning due to the way they've designed the tubes surrounding the MAF's.

I'll have one shortly, albeit with high flow cats and tuned. I have one untuned but I'm running very rich. As in low 10's, high 9's.

That's going to be a hard thing to do. It'll be tough to compare two different cars, two different dynos. If you're not planning on tuning l'd go with the Stillens otherwise look at AAM or the Nismos if water is a concern. When tuned, there isn't going to be much difference between them.

Whats funny is that one day I stumbled upon this video. This video is of a 370z hydro locking. I don't believe it's a Gen 3 or stock air intake set up, more like an Injen or similar set up but in order for you to hydro lock this is what you must do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQLmHlIEqFM

I wasn't able to get it to play via the YouTube function so there is the link if somebody can post it better. Thanks
