OP: I think you may be misunderstanding the term hydrolock. That is where water gets sucked up into the intakes and fills a cylinder or more. Since water is incompressible, IE it will not reduce its volume under pressure, when the engine tries to do a compression stroke on that cylinder, stuff breaks. Connecting rods, cylinder heads, valves, etc. Basically at that point, the engine is trash.
If your car is dieing when you drive it in the rain, it is more likely an electrical gremlin away from the intake/exhaust system. Even a mist of water into the intakes won't make the engine die. Some dragsters use, or used to use, a water mist or steam injection system to increase compression and horsepower.
For the behind the bumper intakes in our cars to cause hydrolock, you would pretty much have to be WOT in 6 to 8 inches of water, or drive it into a filled ditch.
