New CEL codes after Test pipe install

There is some threads out there covering p1148 and p0031 codes showing up after a test pipe install. Which basically say that short of a tune there is not much

Unhappy New CEL codes after Test pipe install

There is some threads out there covering p1148 and p0031 codes showing up after a test pipe install. Which basically say that short of a tune there is not much you can do to get rid of the CEL but those threads are many years old. I had a shop install my ART pipes.

On top of that my car showed up a p0300 code which is a random/multiple cylinder misfire detected code. This is kind of concerning me cause I don't even know where to start with random misfires.

I will attach all the pictures from my phone OBD2 reader. I have cleared these codes multiple times but they come back within a few miles of driving.

Some days the car also idles randomly at like 1000rpm instead of the usual 760rpm. I have read that happens cause of the p0300 code. The code is there all the time but idling like that is not.


To sum up the pictures. There is no readout from exhaust gas sensor HEATER monitor Bank 1 - sensor 1. Bank 2-s1, b1-s2, and b2-s2 readouts are within allowed values.

There is no readout for exhaust gas sensor monitor B1-S2, but the allowed values are zeros as well for some reason. B2-S2 looks fine. (Not the same sensor as above)

I have no idea what/where these sensors are and how to check anything with them. And random cylinder misfire because of test pipes is a mystery to me.

First question. Did you use an air impact gun on any of the exhaust bolts before you removed the O2 sensors?

Check your O2 sensor connections.

If you did use a rattle gun on the exhaust bolts before you removed the O2 sensors. You may have killed them. The vibrations from the rattle gun has been known to kill the O2 sensors.

Default New CEL codes after Test pipe install

Bank 1 and bank 2 sensor 1 are AF sensors. These are crucial bc they monitor exhaust gasses and sends feedback to the ecu for fuel trim correction. Sensor 2 on either bank are 02 sensors which monitor catalytic converter efficiency. Sounds like bank 1 sensor 1 is dead on the heater circuit side which during cold starts helps warm up the sensor to operating temp. You could possibly let the shop know now one sensor was damaged during install. That's what I would do. If you want more info on my experience. PM me.

Random misfire makes sense because the ecu doesn't know how bank 1 is performing. Start at the AF sensor.

I did let them know about the sensor issue, but since they did the install 3 months ago they don't want to take any responsibility for the failed part. Actually, I was there when the guy dropped it after he took it off the car but at the time I wasn't informed enough to know that that could damage it and how sensitive those sensors are. Now I wish I mentioned it to the guy at the front desk, because the technician didn't do anything of it.

Bank 1 is the passenger side. Also, the heater circuit issue can be caused by a blown fuse. The fuse in question is in the fuse box by the battery. Since the heater circuit CEL is the only o2 sensor code being thrown, I'd check the fuse first.

I had a random misfire because the flange on the test pipe was not seated properly on the headers. allowing outside air to hit the sensor -B1S1. The sensor reads lean, dumps fuel to compensate, this causes the ecm to pop a misfire code.

After I fixed the leak, the code cleared itself on the 3rd startup.

I just had to deal with all of these when reverting back to OEM from LTH+catback and Uprev. My random misfire was because my spark plugs fouled up and caused both O2 sensors to be replaced as well.

I really hope you aren't driving around with that misfire code.

I moved out of the area within a week of the install and didn't realize that I had more than just a regular test pipe CEL light until a couple of weeks ago. I called them and they said that I can forget about it cause it's been too long since the install for them to take responsibility. Install was at the end of May.

Where is the sensor located that I'm supposed to replace? The one on the test pipes or the one on the exhaust manifold?

I replaced Oxygen Sensor 1 Bank 1 (Passengers side). Once I cleared the codes they never came back.
