Getting close

kdoske 02-10-2010 09:57 PM

awesome. When you rev the engine with the hood open you can hear the super charger. Its not loud but you can hear it. Sounds a lot like a factory stock supercharger or turbo.

That was replaced this morning and I'm back on the car tuning. working on manly driveability right now and then we will start focusing on power and dyno numbers.

Also we will be adding a boost and air fuel ratio gauge to the car tomorrow to give a better idea what is the car doing while we are taking the videos .

here is couple videos we took today of the car starting and idling, the car is very quite and you can not tell there is a supercharger on it, in a matter of fact you can here the bigger injector over the the whole super charger system .

Sam

Nice Sam, thanks for the quick vids, I think it sounds just right, you can hear it but it's not overpowering.:tup:

Buddy Revell 02-10-2010 10:02 PM

Very subtle. I like that a lot!

We don't even have the air filters on the car in this video, so with the air filters it will be much quieter

Sam

tru_Asiatik 02-10-2010 10:45 PM

that gave me goose bumps lol thanks for the vids sam cant wait till everything is set and ready :D

JB-370z 02-11-2010 09:31 AM

Close but no cigar!
At least we have something to talk about until the final media release, thanks GTM.

lol... i love it....^

Thanks for the vid's Sam... really can't wait to see some results...sounds awfully quiet to me, but it appears like that's what everyone on here seems to like... or a majority of you guys at least... I personally wish that thing was screamin' lol, but thats just me I guess after reading all of your guys responses... Nice work thus far GTM

Zguy 02-11-2010 10:45 AM

I do like it but personally I would want it louder :) Im not for a sleeper... I like people to hear me and get the F out of the way lol.... I was hoping it would be just a little quieter then the 350 Vortech... I loved the sound of it but it was a little too much at times and got annoying.

Zsteve 02-11-2010 11:16 AM

I like to hear the sound of a turbo or SC spinning up over the enigine too.

DannyGT 02-11-2010 11:27 AM

I like the idea of being able to modulate the sound when I want too, options are a good thing. Not being able to control the sound and hearing the whine 24/7 is a bad thing. The Vortech way, is loud, abnoxious, and after a while its annoying. Not to mention for people that dont know what that sound is think your car is broken. Being able to hear it when I want just gives it that extra level of refinement.

modme 02-11-2010 12:06 PM

^ supercharger isnt a speaker. You cant turn up and turn down the volume whenever you want.

Actually with a setup like this you can...and I'm not talking about it in a TV VOLUME sort of way. I simply mean if I'm not going WOT - I dont care if I cannot hear it because at anytime I can just step on the gas and hear that great sound.

We just finished up a roots style supercharger on my friends RS4 and under idle/cruising you would have ZERO idea he has a SC...under moderate to full load its music to my ears...Unlike Vortech style chargers that have a much louder than normal whine even while completely stopped. I personally know two 350's with a setup like that and honestly I cant stand it after a while.

Same concept here...if this is one of those SCs that remain quiet under normal driving conditions thats perfect for me and is what I was referencing in my last post.

modme 02-11-2010 12:34 PM

Gotcha, I think the supercharger probably sounds a lot different in person than on video. For my twin turbo G37, the video recordings never pick up the BOV sound. But when i'm driving it, I can hear it clearly between gears.

I agree with you 100%. I can't wait to see the dyno numbers on this SC system.

Buddy Revell 02-11-2010 01:06 PM

LOL, my 35-year-old ears prefer the subtle sound!

Zguy 02-11-2010 02:58 PM

im sure it will get louder as it spins faster... hopefully :)

bullitt5897 02-11-2010 03:37 PM

GREAT JOB SAM!!!!You guys over at GTM are getting it done with a passion!!! The Z goes in the shop Monday for the Stage 3 Treatment! Woot Woot!

StillenZ 02-11-2010 06:20 PM

DannyGT's got a good point... I mean in the vid, you could hear it under acceleration which I do like...I'm definitely not ruling a damn thing out until I see numbers and some more vids... I don't want to give off the wrong impression... definitely think this kit looks freakin great and I just can't freakin wait to start seein some numbers on these kits. I just like it loud I guess... I wanna hear that thing screamin'!

StillenZ 02-12-2010 11:08 AM

lol... mark me down for a solid 200-300 hits lol... every day i get deeper into this winter depression and all I want is some numbers to get my fix!

SAM@GTM 02-13-2010 12:52 AM

I thought I'll give guys an update of the progress we have made in tuning the car so far . Finished all the driveability tuning.. car runs and drives like stock .

unfortunately i can only get 2 psi of boost out the system due to a leak in the one of the intercooler tanks . Good news is the car responding very well to boost and we are getting a very promising results for 2 psi.

Air charge temperature has been very good even at very long extended idle due the size of the intercooler .

Overall this is very promising and once we fix the intercooler tank we should back in business .

I'm including a dyno graph of the dyno run @ 2 psi and also the 2 psi graph vs the stock graph to give you an idea what to expect out the GTM SUPERCHARGER KIT.

Sam

Brazilbro 02-13-2010 01:01 AM

thats a healthy tq curve.. even now. Just had 6 more psi! 450whp/wtq seems very possible:tup:

Xan 02-13-2010 01:03 AM

Looks promising indeed!

Why is the standard exhaust back on?

Just to document The system's performance with the stock exhaust and cats. and this is how's the car will be tested for the carb certifications .

We still have a long way to go and will be testing the system with a lot of other supporting mods like catbacks.. etc .

Sam

Togo 02-13-2010 01:15 AM

:excited:

Buddy Revell 02-13-2010 01:19 AM

Thanks for the preliminary numbers, SAM. Good torque outta just 2 psi. How much psi will it be pushing from 3,000-5,000 rpms once the leak is fixed?

That my man, is what I call an update! Thank you very much :D

I just lol'ed when I saw that curve, you managed to put down more HP with just two poor pounds of boost than most of us have with all our lame old bolt ons lol

Keep us posted bro!

kdoske 02-13-2010 09:09 AM

nice, thanks for the update!

BlackCherryZ 02-13-2010 11:11 AM

racerxj17 02-13-2010 11:21 AM

You guys are full service... A leaky intercooler hopefully will be ten min with a tig welder.... Let's see 6 psi!!

One_Quick_Z 02-13-2010 11:43 AM

Its looking very good so far keep it up only 6 more psi and we are there ha

DAN

DannyGT 02-13-2010 11:47 AM

So, ya, mmmm 8psi @ 93oct with the snow performance meth kit I have here should = ~450whp.

Zsteve 02-13-2010 12:44 PM

so 2 psi got 35 hp, will 4 psi get 70 and 6 psi 105?

Z eliminator 02-13-2010 03:43 PM

I got the same numbers that you did 105 and thats standard horse power, not SAE!
My base line 265 + 105 = 370 RWHP. Now with some tuning there should be
more power. 11 to 1 compression with 6 lbs = shorter engine life. 8 lbs = 400 rwhp, I would say the engine is at risk. (my stillen stage 4 , 8lbs, killed my 3.5 in my 350.)

VH370ZNISMO 02-13-2010 05:13 PM

Found this on the GTM site

The Stage 3 Kit continues where the Stage 2 Kit leaves off. Included with Stage 3 is the GTM Flash, as well as the complete GTM spec 2.5" cat back,Designed for N/A/Supercharged use but suitable for mild turbo charger applications. Features full stainless steel construction with a high polished finish. And Our GTM Supercharger Turn key kit .
it has a list price for the supercharger of $5390 may not be the same kit though

The VQ35DE has weaker internals.
