Sooo...

After having my 370z since June, I decided to go ahead with the with Super Charger build from Stillen! Thou having some tuning problems that luckily Dave and Dean are working out with me its been a blast! Getting my brakes upgraded next, then going on to the exhaust. Highly considering the old ARK exhaust I used to use on my Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track (Had the ARK Headers, Cat back, etc, grip v2) With that being said I know Stillen has a kit too.. kinda torn at the moment, I don't want the Rasp, or drone.. we have enough of that currently in our Nismo's.. =\

On a side note, has anyone else here installed and got the Super Charger kit installed? Noticing some small issues with low throttle driving, from 10-40mph the car likes to jerk and surge? (Kinda like its hesitating, when I'm trying to go consistent speeds, 25mph, 30mph, etc) once I hit 55 the problem goes away 100%.

Over all the kit is amazing, and the gains are almost exactly what I was looking for :-D

p.s.
Thank you for Lamb Nissan here in Prescott, AZ for doing the install and keeping it looking clean :-)

Update: the guys from Stillen have been more then helpful with fine tuning my car via the UpRev Software, making huge progress!!

Just Debating now with the Exhaust Kits.. anyone have any input on the ARK Grip vs the Stillen Cat back Systems?

On the tuning side of things, make sure you are finishing the tune up on a dyno. Remote tunes are good to get you around for a bit with boost, but you really need to have a quality tuner spend some time on a dyno with the car to iron out all details.

On the exhaust side of things, skip the stillen. I have heard the ARK in person and it is a good system. Rasp should be minimal with any exhaust if you are keeping the stock cats, if you plan to change those to HFC or TP then you open the system up for more rasp or drone.

I have a Stillen Supercharger on my Z and I agree with theDreamer, find a good tuner with a dyno. My car didn't come alive until the dyno and it runs perfect now.

Congrats on the Stillen SC'r... I have a little over 30K mi. with the SCr' kit on mine (it was my DD for 3 years - and now I'm about to get serious with it)

Here are a few heads up for you ...

1) Keep an eye on the underside of the hood for evidence of Belt Spray ... If you find it get the car in to the shop pronto.
You may have a loose Idler pulley or ??? something else
The Stillen kit does have a very small diameter Idler Pulley that failed on me.

2) Tolerances are tight under the hood ... the Wiring Harness' need to be bullet proofed so no flex or movement ... especially near the belts.

3) You will in time need to re-synchronize the Throttle Bodies...important.
With them out of sync the car can be wildly intermittent and erratic - this may explain some of your initial throttle/power problems.

4) Say good bye to your OEM clutch - it won't handle the added power, especially if you like to accelerate hard.
OS Giken makes a nice (dampened) twin disc clutch that grabs good and also feels good. I've gone through 2 ACT single disc clutches (purchased thru Stillen)...

5) You will need an LSD (either OEM or aftermarket if your Z isn't so equipped) to keep power to both rear wheels under hard acceleration.

6) Addressing Traction Issues will be your next happy project !

7) The SC'r is actually good on gas - until you plant your foot properly that is!

Exhaust ? Sound is a matter of preference ... inside the car sounds different than outside of the car... video clips on YouTube? - ehhhhh.

I have the HKS Ti (H) with PPI long tube headers (cat delete) ... acceptably tame until about 3000 rpm...good for driving around in front of the PO-Lice and neighbors but then starts to make itself known when you want it too ... more important though is that it keeps the balance of back pressure needed.

I would have preferred a deeper rumbling sound aka 8 cyl, but: the 3.7 exhaust is controlled by VVEL technology and is Japanese efficient.
It has a certain inherent sound ... smooth but boring - it still is a high revving 6 cyl.

Please let me know what you dyno at ...

Enjoy the Power

Bob

Z&I,

I appreciate your feedback and insight, and everyone else as well.

Currently I'm working with Dave at Stillen trying to get it figured out, the I do know the Nissan Shop (Lamb Nissan) already had to reconfigure the throttle bodies, I'm wondering if they need to redo it again thou.. the "major" issue is at 2-3k RPM's.. after that I can feel alittle tugging with this last tune I received.. but it just seems like every tune I still have that problem. I did have Stillen replace the idler already due to a really bad noise it was making, so that was resolved within 2 business days (Thank you guys at Stillen for that!!)

I'm really, heavily considering the ARK Grip exhaust. The DTS doesn't seem that much better, and I've experienced the ARK Grip on my last car, and the dyno and gains were great and the tone both inside and out were fantastic. I just need to dynomat the damn trunk to get rid of the other road noise lol.. Thank you guys for the feedback. J&I if you have any more insight on how to help fix my low speed\consistent throttle issue lemme know man =)

- Tim

My car did the same thing at low speeds with the Stillen tune because they had it way rich to be safe since they can't dyno it. When I gave up and got it tuned on a dyno we did a couple pulls to see where it was and it was in the 310s HP at best. After tuning it's at 406 HP 302 TQ and all the goofy feel to the throttle/motor is gone. You spent a lot of money for HP that you are most likely not going to get letting Stillen do the tuning. My car on the Stillen tune vs the dyno are day and night different!

I agree about the tune, but I don't think anyone can really tune a car from across the country.I love the kit now that it has a good tune on it! I just don't understand why people here feel the need to be negative on someones post about their car. Maybe my comments about the tune came off negative but I was trying to help the OP resolve his issues with his car. What help is "Stillen sucks" when he already has the kit on his car?

I will give you the first one but totally disagree on the second. After the headache of the support it did exactly what I wanted, it took it to 300 tq(what the 7AT is rated for) and made it a whole lot faster than it was NA. I'm just saying the guy spent $7K and was asking for help and the comment was no help. If it was just to make you feel better then so be it and I hope you enjoyed it.
