I don't think the internals are forged. Sharif@Forged cracked open the HR engine when they first came out back in 06/07 to see the internals, structure, etc and I believe he said they are cast, but they are much stronger than the DE. The VHR internals are just as strong as the HR. Anyhow, I think Sam posted pics in this thread when he took out Bullitt's engine with many pics of the internals and block. The block itself is very well built. just the internals that need beefing up if you wanna run high boost all the time.

I just don't get it. How much more would it really cost for nissan to install forged rods and pistons. At least as an option or in the nismo for crying out loud. If my car had the strength to handle FI and enjoy a longer life it would be a lot farther along mod wise than it is now. Wake up nissan.

New products for 370? Yay!

I wish people would leave this kind of discussion to actual engine builders.
1.) The rods in the VHR are forged. I can't think of a single import V6 engine that has come with cast connecting rods since 1993. 2.) Stock Japanese crankshafts are all forged now, with little need for upgrading unless you want to stroke the engine or are pushing some serious specific output. 3.) Many newer high-performance import engines come with forged pistons, but not of the strongest 2618 alloy and instead 4032 or similar alloys. This is due to the low silicon content of 2618 causing greater piston expansion during operation. A factory engine cannot be built to proper specs with emissions and reliability in mind with 2618 alloy pistons - the piston-to-cylinder wall clearance must be very high in comparison to stock hypereutectic or 4032 alloy pistons (0.003-0.005" vs. 0.0008-0.0012" or so). That said, the forged rods that come with the VHR may or may not be strong enough to handle a certain amount of torque output. As with the rod cap fasteners as far as being able to handle abuse at a certain power level or RPM. In addition, the stock pistons - even if 4032 forged (looks are deceiving, they may still look like cast pistons) - aren't very strong given the 11:1 CR. |

BTW, powder-based rods are classified as "forged" for all intents and purposes, due to the process involved. |
6 vhr rods > 8 stock chevy 350 '83 camaro rods. they aren't bad people here are running 500hp across 6 rods without problems.

I would love to be able to give you a firm answer on this. However, we are still in the fitment stage of the development of the product. Give us a few weeks with the product after we finish the fitment and we should have some base numbers. Mike p.s. I havent seen the difference between the stock airbox and the GTR one... However, the runners on the GTR intake are able to flow some serious air!!! I personally think that everyone will see benefits from this system. |

Sweet!! Love everything about it except rear offset! Even that looks good though!
Congrates!!!!!! |
Nice, wish I was at Sema....takes lots of pics!!!

Officially, I don't like the car anymore. Tribal vinyls? seriously? Parts look mismatched without cf trunk...blue wheels? Meh...
I Still like the engine though! Either way, respect for the amount of work that has gone into it. |
IMO once you reach max level, tribal vinyl and blue wheels don't matter any more. You have an exclusive pass to rice it out all you want :D
|
whats wrong with blue wheels?..i like blue wheels!..haha
|
Nothing is wrong with blue wheels, except they don't fit with any other part of the car. Q8y - tribals are the equivalent of a trampstamp on a car. Looks like they realized the wheels dont fit the color scheme and tried to put a little blue in the tribal. To each their own though, if that's what he likes, its his car.

the blue rims should match his burnt Zele harness bar nicely..

damn i wanted that bar to!..lol.

So is that where it is sitting for SEMA? right next to the street and the polls?

I think the vinyl is just for SEMA.

:iagree: and i'm sure after he gets his car back they'll be some things that he will subtract/change/add. Like subtract the vinyl, change tire sizes (wider more profile), add CF hatch, then it will match perfect and be one of the HOTEST Z'z ever. IMO...:bowrofl: |
Alot of things are changing guys... The suspension was not dialed in before the show and the alignment isn't finished... I am at a conservative stance of -2.7 camber in the rear. If we go to -3.3~-3.5 camber it will tuck nicely. Also, the car will be widened when it gets back to Ga. As far as the tribal it was the choice of my sponsors to make the car look wild and unique... The car will probably get a new paint scheme next year. The blue looks sic and pics do not do it justice!!!!
