ok, i didn't want to resort to the forum with this, but i'm not getting any resolution otherwise. Has anyone with this kit experienced engine knock? My car, what seems at random, seems to go into a different mode/map and i experience tip-in knock. When this occurs, the car also idles high, like 1200rpm instead of 700rpm. The knock occurs without any code being thrown. Also, when i turn off the car, and then start it again...it goes back to normal as if the ecu switched back to the regular tune/map.
Any insight appreciated. |
Different mode? wonder if your car is going into that phantom limp mode from MAF location..yikes. One piece of info though that might be useful is that my car was idling high a few weeks ago and threw a code. I just reset it and the code went away and so did the high idle. Problem never came back.
So the high idle is because of the issue and not part of it. |

Osiris, your problem really sounds like your MAF's are getting funky readings. From what I've heard lately, it seems that those random code-less issues are most often due to this issue. I am surprised though that it's not putting your car in limp mode in the process. Instead you say it just knocks? |

I gave him a list of steps to do over yahoo messanger. easier then going back and forth on the forum. I think he will find some results here. i know K&N airfilters are known for being maf sensor killers if there close to them since the oil they use screws them up. so i told him to clean them, run a fuel pressure test to verify fuel pressure is good then log files for maf voltage and a/f correction on banks 1 and 2 Frank |

It could also mean the MAF sensor is getting different readings then what the motor is actually seeing causing the knock issues. The MAF sensor is before the supercharger, so it will read a certain temperature, once the air hits the supercharger and pushes out through the outlet pipe to the throttle-bodies, the temperature is changed. Also, Stillen states the MAF sensors are suppose to be calibrated through the UpRev canned tune... who knows. |
So this brings the list of enginen detination issues with the stillen kit to 2, is that correct? And if we are to believe the reports that stillen says themselves that the forums are only a very small part of their SC sales, whould it not also be safe to assume that there are other SC's out on the road that are having this issue but are not on this board. Art first it could almost be passiable that it was only one car and ya maybe that is it we all know there are "freak" cars out there that do weird things. But now we are on number 2. Not sure if the 2 issuesthey are behaving the same way but the question is to be asked will it need a software or hardware fix?

Wow, 159 pages. Did my best to scan but how does the stillen supercharger system work with the VDC? Any issues there?

Anybody here running a boost gauge with this kit?

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this. I filmed the car during one of it's high idling episodes. When i drove the car prior to and after this video, it was knocking like crazy, but i did not get that on video. Skip to about 35sec into video....you'll also notice my foot is not on the pedal.
In case the video doesn't show up, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBx4vfTgse4 |
sorry I had to laugh at the video. That's funny. Its like you are driving and shifting in a neighborhood road.

Just wanted to add a little more info for everyone.
Matt’s car was running fine with the standard 8 lb pulley but Matt wanted take advantage of the available 93 octane fuel in his area and make more power (don’t we all) so he purchased some high flow cats and we sent him a 9 lb pulley. He then had the car custom tuned. We do not know anything about the specific tuning (A/F ratios, timing curves, etc) that was done on the car. This particular tuner is a premier UpRev tuning shop and absolutely knows the vehicle as they did the original custom tune with the 8 lb pulley. We have talked with UpRev about the issues Matt is having and they have agreed to talk with the tuner to try and help. UpRev continually is analyzing the different ECU MAPS that are installed in the NISSAN and INFINITI Z and G’s as we are at STILLEN. |

But i appreciate you getting UpRev involved, hopefully we can sort this out. |
Sorry Matt, thank you for the clarification!
By the way, I'm going to shoot you a PM in a moment. I have an idea about something to look at. |

so options for wieboy. run rich and spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in gas . or run lean and spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$ in a new VQ when it blows. decisions decisions.
|
I get like 250 Miles out of a tank. I never wait till I'm out of gas though, so its not really 18gal, but closer to 16.5gal... so its probably around 15mpg. I don't baby my car either..

My gas mileage only has been hurt because i am harder on the accel to keep a grin on my face. Highway mileage has actually improved about 1-2mpg on mine.
