TopgunZ would it be possible to combine the boost control function you've incorporated in the Rotrex with with the SpecialtyZ solenoid to control it through Ecutek? I'm not sure if it's a wastegate/ebc or whatever, so not sure what is/isn't possible with it.

wastegate post
As a wastegate is should be controllable via the same methods you see for TT setups i think.

It is not a WG. We control the BPV with a MAC solenoid via hijacking the EVAP purge valve signal going to the ECU which can then be controlled through Ecutek (map switching using your cruise control buttons) or by a standalone boost controller like the Innovate SCG-1.

If your going boosted the SCG-1 is really your best option as it displays Boost, AFR and allows you to dial in boost on the fly, in an all-in-one gauge.

It can't do boost by gear tho which is why people want to connect it to ecutek no?

EDIT: can you clarify how the "BPV" (bypass valve?) operates? does it have springs? does it have top side and bottom side air inlets etc...? (ie in what way does it not work like a wastegate?)

TopgunZ 08-06-2021 02:40 PM

We did not do this so you can use boost by gear. We did this for its performance benefits. When you spin the blower faster then bleed off the boost after you hit your desired peak PSI then you move the entire power curve to the left. Meaning we will have way more HP and TQ lower in the rpm band at 14psi then anything on the market. It also allows us to offer a supercharger that can run a "daily" map at 14psi and then a "kill" map at 18psi. Or a daily of 12psi and a built motor with 20+ psi.

Otherwise you are always stuck to the PSI of the pulley you have on.

The BPV just opens when its told to so if you set that at 15 then it opens at 15 and dumps the excess charge air vs a WG dumps the excess exhaust.

I'm not sure i understand what the distinction is in practical use?
So if you can bleed off charged air pressure. and you can control this electronically.
Why can't it be used to limit boost pressure per gear? Does the valve not respond to control via the solenoid with the same speed that a wastegate would?

When you say that the kit's boost is controllable via solenoid that suggest to me anything that can control a solenoid (like ecutek boost by gear) could control it? So is that not the case? I understand you didn't design it for that. But shouldn't it still work?

I was hoping to buy this kit and do boost by gear. Controllable boost is a huge benefit over other supercharger setups. But maybe some more clarification on exactly how it would work would help potential buyers.

I was thinking the same thing... if it's being controlled by Ecutek to lower/raise boost, all other items that use that function should be enabled as well. However, this is probably a question that would be better answered by a tuner, no offense to TopgunZ.

I never said it can't. Basically, we never even thought of that. I guess we just like melting tires.

So, I guess the sound of this is logical. I also don't see why you couldn't do this.

Eugene or Sebs? Please confirm.

I talked with Eugene. He said boost by gear only works on the 370Z and it has to have rev matching.

To provide some clarification, boost by gear only works on vehicles where the gear is detected within the ecutek software. By definition, all synchrorev equipped models support boost by gear.

To further that, it would be 6MT only, since 7AT is only Downshift Rev Match. Unless that is still picked up by the ECU…

There is one specific rom that I am aware of where gear actually works on a 7at - but I haven’t personally seen it.

takemorepills 08-12-2021 10:53 AM

That'd be nice to enable boost by gear on the 7AT, reduce boost in 1st, 6th and 7th

SeeThruHead 08-12-2021 06:32 PM

guess i can't do boost by gear anyway, on my base model. sigh!

Anyone in the process of installing the kit?

Birdiev 08-18-2021 04:36 AM

Have had the kit sitting in the garage all week. In the process of installing a fuel return kit I now have permanent codes p0123 p0228.I can no longer switch through my maps as well. As soon as I can get this issue sorted out I will be installing it and posting up numbers .
I just want to make sure I have no ecu issues.
