Default Does anyone with FI tell their insurance?

I made the mistake about talking to my insurance agent to find out if I was covered on the track ( thats A big HELL NO!) and after her reaction I'm curious if anyone tells their insurance that their car is FI? I would like to have everything covered but I'm afraid my rates will go to Lambo prices.

Hell no. I was going to look into getting all my mods covered however from what I heard the increase in rates is insane.

State Farm didn't care at all. It was a while ago so I cannot remember exactly, but I told them I wanted something like 10-15g extra coverage for aftermarket stuff on the car, and either it didn't effect the rate or it was so minor I forgot about it. They just said something about making sure to have photos and invoices to prove what was on the car. They were completely "ok whatever" about it. Although, I did not and would not mention anything about racing or track use!

You have to figure that the money you have in mods is pretty minor situation for them compared to the medical bills they have to pay when people get hurt. I dont get the impression that the details of the car matter a whole lot to them.

I tried, but Texas policies only allow for 5k over the value of the car in coverage of aftermarket items. Maybe once I get another assignment.

I would feel good with 5K extra. Gotta figure that if the wreck was bad enough to take out all the mods, youre probably not alive to care. I suppose maybe it has more to do with concern of the car being stolen. Not an easy car to steal unless they tow it.

Do what I did, and at first be anonymous when you call to feel out their reaction. It could differ per agent. I asked the questions before I answered any.

I don't know about your car but my car has a lot of money in the nose. It wouldn't take much damage to the nose for the $ to add up!

I also live in Texas. I have Farmers and my agent is basically family. He did the research for me and Farmers will not cover engine modifications. You can get rims, lift, expensive @ss paint and any other cosmetic things covered but not performance upgrades.

Seemed silly to me considering that the cosmetic things are more likely to get it stolen unlike performance mods that you can't see at all.

Really?
I was told wheels, audio, and other interior items can be but anything else requires an invoice and only a percent cost. I have Allstate, and they have been good to me over the years.

Really? My Allstate agent told me to just increase the value of my vehicle and they would adjust the rate. I think with my last FI Z it went up about $35 or so a month. Of course that was for a high quality turbo kit like an STS kit

My plan covers 10k in parts, it does not care what these parts are. It's almost like standardized deductions to them. Once you claim a certain amount, they will care what it is, at least my insurance will.

I use State Farm...my agent is my brother....lol.

Or do what tower said. Increase the insured amount of vehicle in total. This is not as effective for individual parts(wheels, stereo), but for forced induction, would work with minimal impact.

I pay $16/mo over my normal amount(for 10k aftermarket parts). Granted we have 5 cars in our plan. YMMV

My Geico agent let me add whatever I wanted. It came out to be like $5 more per month for every $1000 I added. Exterior mods or engine.

Interesting, it might come down to the agent and what they want to do.
I have used my guy for 10 years now and he probably just figured if there was a problem he would cover it while trying to keep my premium down. I don't mind paying extra for coverage, just not some crazy amount. I know once my Z stops being my DD I will insure it at a $X value so if anything happens it is fully covered no matter what.
