Put a penny in the little black plastic spring thingy on the hatch. This will increase spring tension when the hatch is closed.

I tried that and it only helps a little bit for a while, then it reverts back to it's old ways!

I have a 40th with the standard spoiler and since I've owned her, the rear latch has done the same thing you describe. I hit the button, it partially releases, pull up on it a bit, hit the button again and all is well. It's annoying

Try what I posted. AND there's a TSB for the springs. You can get yourself a new set for free from the dealer
