Default PWJDM shift knob installtion, help needed

So, my strap wrench broke and I could only get the knob to be the position shown in the pic. I only took off the stock knob and twist this one on. Is is the right way or am I doing it all wrong??

You need to back-off (counter clockwise) the new shift knob so the logo is lined up to where you want it. Use the supplied thread lock and let it set over night.

I don't think I can back off because at this position, I still have a gap between the knob and the boot

Yep, you need to get some rubber o-rings to help hold the shift boot up.

Trust me, you will not get your shift knob turned any further clockwise if you've already destroyed a strap wrench trying.

did you forget to put the rubber spacer under the boot, or the metal one into the base of the shift knob?

I bought a new strap wrench and it's all line up now. I figured the one I broke was not gripping too well

Nice.... I have the original PWJDM knob where the inner collars are able to be aligned by loosening the hex screw. If the shift boot is still a little low you can still add some spacer on the shaft to push it up. Any finished pics?

Here is when it got tough
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336672198.592740.jpg

Then I broke the strap wrench
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336672221.955287.jpg

Then I got it aligned
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336672243.023179.jpg

This is the gap when it first got tough, gap is not too bad now (don't have picture)

Thanks Anthony, it took some elbow grease lol, I thought it would be a piece of cake

dang, never heard of people needing to use a strap wrench to TIGHTEN the knob.

as mr.gale suggested, i also used a plastic washer inside the boot to hold the boot up flush to the base of the PWJDM shiftknob collar. it's a great knob

I know... I went hand tight, saw the shift pattern was off, pulled the shift knob off, added the supplied lock tight, screwed it down to where the shift pattern looked good, and let it sit over night. Maybe I should have used my strap wrench? lol

You got it looking good now. Good job
