A lot of dirt gets inside the engine compartment here and even more if I get the TS hood so if I know how to take care of it will help me decide. I'd get the GTR style if I think the TS is too much exposure.

I could be wrong, but I could have sword I remember a thread where the discussion was about how the real hood came with rain guards.

The slits in the TS are like, the opposite direction of rain that would go into into it. It's not like a ram air style that's meant to take in the outside air and cram it into the engine or engine bay.

I would not worry about it that much unless you are driving through a hurricane amount of water/wind.
The only concern you really need to have is over maybe 5 years as electronics get old and wires become exposed to keep them wrapped and where your filters are. Though with most hoods/vents the filters are far away so that is of little concern.

I have an aftermarket hood....it has scoops....it came with detatchable panels under both of the scoops.....mine also has scoops in the dead center which don't have panels...and I've washed my car by hand on numerous occasions and never had a problem.

And here is the best photo I have of my hood I can show from the images I have in my photo album on this site:

You can see the scoops and the center part of my hood actually dips down and there a dual panel there with no protection behind it.

It shouldn't really be a problem imo, had numerous of vented hoods on my previous cars and it doesn't seem to have done any damage or rust to be seen with the naked eye. =] but then again that's just my perspective on it.

I changed the stock top mount intercooler on my old STi to a front mount and left the scoop alone. When it rained, it filled my engine bay full of water.

Not saying it was a good thing, but I never had any negative affects from that... other than a crazy nasty engine and engine bay.

The scoop always sucked in trash and debris from the road is a downside.
