Wow... thanks for the props man. I never thought of it that way, but hey, if my thread was able to help fellow forum members and other Z owners, then I am glad. (In fact, rep points are appreciated )

I am curious to see how the black aluminum would look too! Curious, weigh the OEM knob to the black aluminum... which is better?

Ken... that is a great idea. I mean, from what I remember of the base ring, it wasn't anything special right? Just a black piece of tapered rubber grommet? I would prefer a brushed aluminum/nickel/titanium rin instead... should be tapered too though. Any thoughts? Someplace sell it?

yep, it's just a tapered rubber grommet that one might be able to find at homedepot. LOL

for my titanium, i was thinking more in-line with CF. but if there were other colors i would consider doing a black knob + titanium colored base.

Hey everyone. This is my first post, however I have been lurking for the last couple weeks since I pick up my 2011 370Z. A very happy day to say the least! Not only did I get a great deal on the car, the salesman was kind enough to hook me up with a CF Nismo shift knob.

I was hoping to get the stock knob off as mentioned in other posts with a strap wrench, but there was no way that sucker was coming off. Had no choice but to thrash the stock knob but when it was all said and done, I was VERY happy with results. The picture really does no justice to how beautiful the CF Nismo is, really enhances the interior alot.

Anyway, looking forward becoming an active member here with you all!

Sorry to hear that... yeah, just make sure you find a good tapered one. Also while your there, pick up some rubber 3" tubing... then split that apart and use that to wrap around the OEM knob using a wrench if you can't get the strap wrench to work. Will still save your OEM knob.

I'm having the same issue. My ego is still shot from the last attempt. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Guys sorry to hear this... but when I first tried this same setup that I did, the strap wrench was also slipping. I was all anxious, sweaty hands, etc.... LOL. Just make sure you get a good firm grip of both the robo grip and the strap wrench. Make sure the rubber lining on the strap wrench stays inside the groove. It shouldn't slip off.

If it still keeps slipping, wrap some duct tape around the knob, then wrap the strap wrench on that...even electrical tape, whatever makes the strap wrench rubber grab.

note to self... do not piss off TheGreatOne.

hey, remember this... lefty loosey, rigty tighty. so counter clockwise. if the strap wrench slips it's beyond the torque it can handle. if you sandwich a non-slip like i did, SNAP goes the wrench.

Guys...don't feel bad. In a lot of cases, removal of the stock knob is really a two person job depending on the type of tools you have (or don't have). A buddy and I worked at it for over 45 minutes before we could get it off. It was a b!tch to be honest.

Funny thing is...he drives a WRX and changed his shift knob recently. Took him about 10 seconds and the only tools he needed were his hands.
