Newyorkjon- yah, if i was going to remove the trim i would wrap the entire trim over the holes, then cut a hole around the center of the hvac dial

Newyorkjon- yah, if i was going to remove the trim i would wrap the entire trim over the holes, then cut a hole around the center of the hvac dial opening to about 1/2" from the lip and tuck it over into the hole.
BUT, before you do that, i would also sand off a good 0.3mm from the hvac dial opening to compensate for the flim thickness. otherwise when you push your dials through, the film could get caught and be pushed out.
