Default custom gauges

Hey all!

So, after my fiasco with my gauge needle, I considered doing something a bit different. I'm wanting to change out the tach, speedo and fuel gauge with aftermarket, properly sized versions of themselves. I was told, for the most part, the change would be plug and play. However, I'm going to lose my indicators that are present on the tach. This leads to a question. Is there a way to direct the indicator signals to an outside source or to a separate monitor so I can keep track of them easier, should an issue arise? If not, I could always use an obd2 reader at all times, but I'd prefer a cleaner approach.

Any insight into this would be great, especially if you or someone you know has done similar.

Thanks!

Have you looked at the Haltech IC7 dash - I used one in my race car last weekend as my logger dash died and have seen one in a Suby Rex road car and they are awesome .... there is a printed carbon bracket that sits neatly under the OEM instrument panel top .... all driven from the OBDII connection for a road car

I'll hunt for a photo of my car from the weekend and post it here if I can find it.

Here is a few pictures of mine! Sébastien at Specialty Z is doing the install. Don't have any final pictures yet.

Who said this would be plug and play? Unless that person was talking about a haltech I would expect it to be a royal pain in the ... As far as the indicators go, I believe that they are all sent on the CAN bus in different messages, so if you're really 'bout that life then you can make a device to monitor the bus and do whatever you want when you see the bits in the messages. I'm not sure if the gauge cluster does this or if it has discrete lines for each indicator, but I do know that you can get at them from the CAN bus.

I have considered something like this, but I don't much care for the look. I prefer to keep the original set up but with aftermarket gauges.

Not 100% decided on that part yet. I'd like to get an overall gameplan before taking the plunge with that decision. Anyone with gauges close or dead on the same size that we have stock. They need to be color adjustable or blue though as that's what my interior and accents are.

I actually wanted to do this immediately after getting the car but waited to save up. Now, with covid, no one around me has time to do it until next year. I'm not horrible per se with soldering, but I'd rather someone that would warranty the part do it.

I have checked them out before. Unfortunately it seems any gauge I want and like doesn't have the night color I'd want. I'll check them out again to see if anything has changed.

Did someone say CAN bus???? That's been my area of research for the last 3 months

(Updated with correction)
The turn signal stalk is wired to the BCM.
When the turn signal stalk is signalling a turn, the BCM flashes the external turn signals and broadcasts a CAN message, that is received by the combination meter/gauge cluster which turns on/off the gauge cluster turn signal.

The CAN ID for the turn signal is 0x60D (BCM), second byte, bit 6 for right turn / bit 5 for left turn.

The Haltec is supposed to be plug and play with factory ECU and is what I ordered. I have not talked to Seb about the install yet but I will shortly. Also Austin Hurtle who is on here sparingly but is on Instagram installed one of the AIM dashes and figured out the CAN bus so you may try DM-ing him on Instagram.
