Default Who uses car covers on their Z?

Reading mixed information on if car covers can actually damage your paint. What are people's thoughts on this?

My Z is only driven on weekends and throughout the week it is parked under a car port but the front half of thr car is exposed outside of the carport. This is my parking arrangement with my landlord.

So it is exposed to the sun and rain, I was thinking of getting a car cover but kind of refrained when I learned that they can also cause harm to the paint.

Who here uses a cover on their Z out in the sun, are their covers that will protrct against sun/rain damage without causing any kind of damage itself, any recomendations?

I use a car cover on both my cars. I park in a carport too but my cars are only exposed to the afternoon sun and ocean air, no rain. My Eclipse is almost 20 years old and the paint looks perfect.

I use a cover for winter storage in the garage. It's not an OEM cover, just a generic loose light material cover bought at Canadian Tyre. No issues with paint.

@Redon, what is the brand type of cover you use?

I have been looking at this website:
https://www.autoanything.com/car-covers/50A1A104A1.aspx

Has anyone got experience with the WeatherShield, Noah or Sunbrella covers?

I got mine from Cal Car Covers. I have the Noah on the Eclipse, it's a great heavy duty cover.

Cheap ones can damage the paint because they are made for lesser materials and have poor fitment so they essentially sand the paint when they move around. A good custom fit cover, I use Covercraft Noah (Coverking seems good too), won't harm the paint job to any noticeable degree.

Keep in mind that whatever cover (if ) you decide on, the paint should be free of DUST & debris before installation.

Car covers are like anything else. You need to keep them clean as well as the car itself. When I use a cover, it gets shaken almost every time that I use it and would also get washed depending on how much I used it and how dirty it got. As long as you take care of the cover, the cover will take care of the car.

You probably want to take into consideration the neighborhood that you live in as well. Any really good car cover will be pricey and unfortunately easy to steal.

Since my Z is subjected to the Atlanta,Georgia hot summers I purchased a Covercraft Noah all weather car cover and it works well and never had a issue with it scratching the paint on my Z. I purchased this car cover on eBay. With car covers you get what you pay for 9/10. Also the Genuine Nissan Nismo car cover is really nice if you can find one that is.

I've used Weathershield covers on my cars for winter storage for a long time, and I've had no problems with either my paint or the covers. One cover got sprayed with ? coolant or oil or something while the car was in storage, and while the cover was left stained, the car was completely protected.

Paint damage usually isn't due to the cover material itself, it's due to dirt trapped between the car and the cover, which acts like sandpaper when the cover is tugged on. If I were going to replace a cover on an unwashed car on a daily basis, I'd use a loose-fitting cover like a non-custom Budge so I wasn't grinding the dirt into the paint every day. All largely theoretical and YMMV.

OK it looks like I can get these covers locally:

https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/se...gment=1&page=1

But what I don't understand, there seems to be so many variations and prices on what looks to be mostly the same cover.

I don't know which one I should chose?

Go to covercraft's website. They show each cover and what kind of protection it provides.
