OP - awesome idea. Been thinking about this for a while.

How does it hold up under severe temps? I am afraid of that in the texas heat

Also, what ideas do you guys have of still keeping the cubby storage? Can we put a small tab to lift the tablet and use the storage if we needed to?

Mine is held in with magnets for this very reason. I put magnets on the tablet and behind the cubby. I havent done it yet but i plan to put magnets on the back of the cubby door for when im not using the tablet. Right now its the same cubby just doorless lol. As for the heat, it (the liquid nails I used on the tablet) holds up to the San Diego heat pretty well.
