Default Problem with FI exhaust and Z1 diff cover

So I installed my new Wavetrac LSD and finned Z1 differential cover. All went well until I reinstalled my Fast Intentions exhaust. The largest fin is rubbing on the left side exhaust pipe. I've tried manipulating the exhaust hanger, but no luck. Any suggestions?

I've got the same cover and I'll be getting my fi cbe real soon. If I have the same issue, that fin will be getting cut off.

Someone else had the same problem. I believe they cut off the fin or fins that was causing the issue.

Yeap, I had the same issue. I took a hacksaw and scribed the fin, hit it with a screwdriver and hammer to break it off. Worked like a charm.

I was thinking of grinding it down. I don't want to cause the cover to crack.

I have a nismo oem exhaust and that fin was so close it was making a contact sound. I don't know why they made it like this. Even in there promotional video you can see it's almost touching.

a small 5" grinder with a thin cut off wheel will make short work of it.

Remove the Z1 differential cover and use a grinder and grind down the fins as even as possible. You should be able to make it clear your FI exhaust with some work. You will just have to refill your differential fluid.

This would be the better way.

Using an angle grinder there would be no need to remove the cover.

Digging up old post - is this needed for Invidia Gemini?

Getting my Z1 diff cooler installed in about a week.

Depends on how close the exhaust pipe is to the fins. I don't know how close your exhaust is.

I trimmed the fins on mine when it was still on the car. Used a 3" cut off wheel on a die grinder.

Hmm thinking of just leaving the stock one on then.

Honestly, buy the Nismo diff cover instead. It's a better and stronger design. That .5 quart will not prevent overheating. I run the MA Motorsports diff cooler kit with the Nismo diff cover. I ran Three events and the fluid was still blue.

Yup, I ran the Z1 diff cover at first. Overheated the diff on the Tail of the Dragon and puked fluid. My diff cooler was sitting at home in the box. It went on the car shortly after.
