The plate doesn't block flow, it just redirects the flow through the cooler and then back to the filter. You should be able to place the new thermoplate either place

The plate doesn't block flow, it just redirects the flow through the cooler and then back to the filter. You should be able to place the new thermoplate either place - at the engine or at the filter adapter. For heat transfer purposes, you want the hottest oil going to the cooler (higher delta T = greater heat transfer).
