Sport mode question

Why is pushing the stick forward for shifting up and pushing the stick back for shifting down confusing? I've heard this a few times now that this is confusing and

I've heard this a few times now that this is confusing and it seems perfectly logical to me. also why are you shifting an automatic into neutral when at a stop???
