While we're on the subject... 7AT / Sport / Touring. If I use the paddle shifters, it only holds it for like 8 seconds before going back to Auto. Do

If I use the paddle shifters, it only holds it for like 8 seconds before going back to Auto. Do I need use the lever & swap modes to get it to hold the gear? I've just never jacked with it... Using the paddle shifters seems pretty worthless since it won't hold the gear.
