Question about tuning and nitrous.

With an 11:1 compression, running nitrous, IMO, would be suicide for the engine. I dunno...

Factory compression ratios have been creaping up over the last ten years. All along the way, people have said that you won't be able to use nitrous or forced induction with the higher ratios but they always do.

I don't know if this motor will handle nitrous or not, but the compression ratio alone dosen't eliminate that capability.

I dunno, I guess I don't see the need, or that the risk outweights the benefit.

I mean, I enjoy performance, but, I've heard of too many people having problems with nitrous, not including having their cars impounded...

Nitrous can be run extremely safely as long as its done properly.

^^ what he said. I know a lot of people are pretty anti nitrous but from what I have read this engine should be able to hold a 50-75 shot just fine.. maybe 100. I am honestly not that concerned with the risk, because as bobo said it can be run quite safely. I just need to see about how to set it up so I can sometimes run it and other times not.

Solus, I used to run nitrous in my Maxima. We tuned it for when the nitrous was not in use. When the nitrous kicks in, the ECU is supposed to automatically retard the timing (i.e., no tune needed to retard the timing). Could further gains have been attained while nitrous was on with a 'nitrous-on' ECU map? Maybe. But given how infrequently the nitrous was on, relative to when it was off, it just wasn't worth the hassle. Plus, it was plenty quick enough when the nitrous kicked in. So, FWIW, that's how I did it on my Maxima, and it ran both reliably as well as with good results. Hope that helps.

For the uneducated in Nitrous yes.

Ask the guys over @ CLUB RSX running a supercharer+nitrous on their 11.0 compression K20's..............it's all in the tuning.......even though that's a MAP engine, it's the same concept....

Colder plugs, retard timing, and if the tuning device has it, fail safe features for lean cuts and things of that sort.

Admittadly, I am uneducated w/ nitrous. I've just seen too many vids where someone blows their engine.

Well how many videos do you see specifically talking about how smooth the nitrous delivery was? Of course you're going to see the videos of people throwing rods through their block, or their intake manifold blowing off, or the nitrous solenoid getting stuck open.
