Question about tuning and nitrous.
Lets say someone wanted to get the whole bolt on setup (I/H/E, hfc or test pipes, pulleys, short throw) and an oil cooler and short throw. But then wanted to add.. lets say a 50 or 100 shot to it. Then have it tuned. After the tune.. if you take the bottle off how bad would it F*** your setup?

Not bad at all if you went with the osiris uprev tune becuase you can get multiple maps and switch them Via cruise control switches
If you went with another tune/reflash yes you would want to get it retuned for optimum performance. DAN |
I dont think I am conveying what I am getting at. If I get it tuned to run on the nitrous.. then take the bottle off.. is it going to mess it up or cause power problems?
|
You would lose a good bit of power if you ran a nitrous tune with no nitrous. Nitrous raises cylinder pressure significantly requiring a decrease in timing. The more nitrous the more you need to retard the timing. If you ran with no nitrous and your timing retarded there would be a noticeable decrease in power.
The fix for this is to have a device that retards the timing when you spray the nitrous. Don't know of a specific device compatible with the 370, but I'm sure you can find something. |
With an 11:1 compression, running nitrous, IMO, would be suicide for the engine.
I dunno... |
Factory compression ratios have been creaping up over the last ten years. All along the way, people have said that you won't be able to use nitrous or forced induction with the higher ratios but they always do.
I don't know if this motor will handle nitrous or not, but the compression ratio alone dosen't eliminate that capability. |

I mean, I enjoy performance, but, I've heard of too many people having problems with nitrous, not including having their cars impounded... |

^^ what he said. I know a lot of people are pretty anti nitrous but from what I have read this engine should be able to hold a 50-75 shot just fine.. maybe 100. I am honestly not that concerned with the risk, because as bobo said it can be run quite safely. I just need to see about how to set it up so I can sometimes run it and other times not.

I was having a Zex Kit installed on my 350Z and then went a different route and bought the 370Z Now I have a brand new kit just sitting in the box it has everything to run it safe window switch/purge/ blowdown tube pressure gauges/ switch pannel bottle heater/ Everything you would ever need and I never got the install finished at GRD in Villapark IL lol

Semtex- Thanks bro, I was under the impression it would have to be tuned for the nitrous... hmmm I think i have a plan now lol. Just have to see how much it is to set it up

Most typically retard timing 1-1.5 degrees for every 50 hp increase you plan on running (assuming you are running a wet system) with nitrous. That's the only tuning change you would need if you went with nitrous. If you took the bottle out, your car will still run fine, but you'd be leaving a little bit of hp on the table since your timing is retarded with the new tune compared to the stock tune. Maybe 10 hp or so you'd be giving up for a 50 shot and up to 15-20 hp for a 100 shot. Driveability would not be impacted at all.
Like others have said, nitrous is safe if done right. |

Ask the guys over @ CLUB RSX running a supercharer+nitrous on their 11.0 compression K20's..............it's all in the tuning.......even though that's a MAP engine, it's the same concept.... Colder plugs, retard timing, and if the tuning device has it, fail safe features for lean cuts and things of that sort. |
