hopefully i'm going to have the motor next month, want to start tear down and refresh what i can for now, super limited budget so we'll see. Looking like a full strip and rewire for the entire car everything will go, abs isn't useful to me so its out, going to see if we can't pull a mile of wiring out of the car (real goal here) will be using aftermarket traction control, going megasquirt 3 with ms3x expansion for full sequential fuel and timing, hand built headers and mounts, neo garage adapter plate+clutch or make my own, new guage cluster using analog style gauges, gps 200mph speedo, diy manifold maybe itb's we'll see. going to use an 04-06 non cvtc engine, custom trigger wheels, use the factory coil on plug setup, need two ignition modules to fir them from the ecu, going to soldier up an in dash knock light/headphone jack for tuning. Going to focus on getting it running by next spring if i can get all the parts in by fall. going custom oil pan for now unless something happens where i can get my hands on a drysump. hopefully i can keep ac, might need the room for something else. going to call it project "simple" I'll break down all my costs as they come up knowing i may not be able to make this happen quickly so don't hold your breath. once i get the motor in i'll fire up a journal thread. hp goal right away is to not make any less than a stock z, down the road gonna shoot for 600. If all goes well maybea build and cams, a turbo or two since the ecu is built for it, fuel-cell/return system, a small cage hidden behind a hand layed carbon replacement interior to lighten things up a bit, move the battery to the back, 4 or 5 point harnesses, then the really expensive task brakes, suspension, and custom bits like active brake cooling. i want to be able to drive it to work, have it unique and functional, hand built but not cheap looking, and something i can keep working on for years. If i don't have a motor by march just forget about it.
Edit: oh yeah the goal is to get the motor in and be able to drive car for under $6000/ i realize i said going 8 times.

i will be using the factory 6 speed just ignoring the synchro rev sensors(unless i can pull something off in ms3). They make adapter plates for them to bolt to vk's it's like $700 otherwise i'll make my own and spend that 700 elsewhere. Filing taxes tomorrow then going motor shopping.
Edit: also this would be the 3rd time. Chris Forsbergs mechanics, Ryan Kado's mechanics, me(iff), i say mechanics cuz they did'n do sh!t

I always laugh at the ls projects cause as soon as it's done it's up for sale!

there's a guy in australia building a 2500hp vk56 slingshot ls's aren't some god king of the v8's, theres just a lot more of them, factory installed in sports cars, without truck manifolds and cams. the tech in an ls is 60yrs old at least ford finally went DOHC
Edit: will be buying motor in next couple weeks have money set aside so its a go. found a replacement for the intelligent key/ keyless start to rewire the door locks and add a nice alarm even remote start should i dare install one on a manual. the main boxes will be ms3, viper 5701 + custom built relay and diode board for doors and push start, racelogic traction control, standalone gauges, and painless or junkyard re-purposed fuse/relay/breaker box. I might wire 4 switches together as a simple 4-bit key combo on dash to start car too, as in flip the four switches to certain positions in order to power start button.

Cool story and all that, but the LS7 is still king of the NA V8 motors under $40-50K in price. Mercedes has one in their AMG car that makes about 50-75hp more IIRC ...and costs about 300% more. DOHC isn't all it's cracked up to be. The 5.0 Coyote is a great engine, but it weighs about the same as the LS7 and produces far less power, especially at lower rpms. GM experimented with DOHC designs and stuck with cam-in-block for a reason. These reasons have been detailed again and again and again, but suffice it to say when you have a 450# motor complete from manifold to oil-pan that will make over 500 horsepower and pass emissions, you have a winner. Now consider that it will produce over 500 horses at the TIRES with exhaust and a mild cam and a tune. Technology is great, and I am sure someday it will bring us an engine lighter than the LS-series that can produce more horsepower, but so far it has failed to do so within 2-300% of the cost of the most expensive LS-engines available. |

the vk is good for 600hp in stock form same as an ls2/ls3 and they still cost twice as much at the yard. Titan motors are cheap, cheaper than a vq for that matter. if i wanted a car with an ls in it theres no point of putting it in a z go buy a corvette, if you want a car with a vk in it your SOL without a swap, i believe swaps should be done with motors from the same make unless none are available
